Edit Category error

Hi. I am getting an error when I try to edit a category name. I can create categories, move products around etc. But if I try to go back and edit them I get the following error:

 

1054 - Unknown column 'sort_order' in 'field list'

update products set sort_order = '3', last_modified = now() where products_id = '0'

[TEP STOP]

 

I don't expect everyone to find my error but any advice as where to start and what to look for would be great. where is field list? I looked in mySQL and didn't see it.
