hetster
i am fairly new to oscommerce but have noticed quite a few things in these forums. 1. hard to find answers i feel this is due to the amount of sections. general support is 1 section with so far nearlly 88,000 posts. thats a lot of posts to get through to find what you want. maybe splitting into sections. ie general osc support. support for info box contribs. support for module contribs etc. this would narrow things down quite a lot. 2. general forum etiquette. the amount of times ive gone through the search and finaly found someone with the problem i have and clicked the link and get i have blah blah problem then next post says it doesnt matter i sorted it. "FOR GODS SAKE if you sorted it then tell us HOW you sorted it then you help the community as a whole. 3. not properly moderated i have seen lots of dupe posts because people dont get answers so they repost the same question over and over till it gets answered (i am guilty of this also  ) this is in part due to point 1. as support is limited to 1 thread within 20 mins of posting your post has gone from top of list to 2 pages down so tends to get ignored. this would be eleviated with subsections. 4. no sticky's there are some really really good posts that would probably stop half the posts if they where available without having to search around. heres 1 from my first trip to oscommerce http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...139426&st=0 the amount of posts with how do i edit this or how do i change that 80% of those questions would never be posted as the answers lie within that 1 thread. there are many more points i would like to make but those where the main ones. as with most communities we should all work together to make oscommerce as easy and great as possible. keep up the good work with the software and i'm pretty sure there would be hundreds of volunteers to help you make the forums as a complete a package as oscommerce is have a great day and live the osc dream
hetster
just to raise my point about the stickies i am page 1 of general support and found these 1. how do I remove the power by oscommerce on the footer please? 2. admin button font? 3. Condition of Use - how to update them 4. White Background On One Product Page 5. How to center a cat image? 6. infobox content/heading on one line 7. removing fields in sign up form out of approx 25 posts 7 are answered in http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...139426&st=0 alone. if we all answer to this post the mods will know that changes are needed
nudylady
forum's search function is the worst I have seen.
hetster
useing the "" and + makes it slightly better but with the amount of posts there are its very difficult to pinpoint your own specific problem

brianstorm
there is a search topic bar (as opposed to the general search) at the foot of each topic page... there are individual support threads for mods which are usually referenced in the contribution itself. there is documenation included in the install package in defence of the moderators, i'm sure that they have plenty to do with there time.... there is plenty of help to be had on this forum but you still need to do a fair bit of work yourself... and i belive that there are a few stickies posted with ten thousand dollars we'll all be millionaires
hetster
like i say after 20 mins your post goes from top to onto next page out of view so goes unanswered. the point i was makeing is i found a thread about changing the look and feel of oscommerce with lots of posts with hints etc..i then looked on first page of general help and clicked each thread to see what they where out of the 25 i clicked 7 of them where problems that where answered within that 1 thread about canging the look and feel of oscommerce. but becuase its not pinned or stickied you have to actualy stumble accross the thread by accident via the search function. not good
nudylady
This forum looks good by itself. but when compare it to other forums. I would say this forum is one of the worst.
