looking for simple paypal setup

Hi all,

I have been searching these forums for hours this evening about this, and while I have learned a lot about using Paypal, the conclusion I have come to is that I still do not understand what I need to do. I am very new to osCommerce and web stores in general.

I have a simple store with little customization; no contributions installed at all. I am in the USA and expect 99% or more of my customers to be in the USA, at least at the start. I am accepting only US Dollars and am using only the English language. I will not be charging tax to my customers and am using a shipping table. As I said, it is a simple setup.

My Paypal knowledge doesn't go any farther than using it for ebay purchases and sales on an individual level (i.e. no ebay store). I have read about the "customer not clicking continue" issue with OSC and Paypal, and that the solution is to set auto return on and send to the checkout_process.php file, so I am aware of this issue.

My question (finally...sorry) is about using the standard Paypal module versus this Paypal IPN thing I keep reading about, and more importantly, what merchant option do I use on Paypal's side? I'd like to go with "Website Payments Standard", since there is no monthly payment.

With my simple setup, will I be OK with the standard Paypal module and Paypal's Website Payments Standard config (accepting credit cards in the USA)? Is there anything special I need to know when setting this up? Should I use this Paypal IPN anyway?

Sorry to run long at the keyboard. I appreciate any help/advice given!

Install the oscommerce_paypal_ipn contribution. Create a Business account on paypal. Enable the IPN module in your admin->modules->payment section and enter in your paypal email address. All done.
