Hi,

I bet this guy has too much spare time on his hands as he even bothered to put in the security code into my contact us form manually ... oh and bud, I cannot ship stuff to you to Singapore, I do not sell things on my site at all!!! This is where reading would really help

It's almost sad.

So join in ... whom else has he chosen as his new best friend?

:-)

Haven't had too many of "those" emails lately. The new trend has been to receive targeted emails from legit manufacturers in China. For example, my store sells ancient coins, so I was recently sent an email from a coin / medal maker in China saying that they can make coins for me. It's a good change from the usual "Hi, I'm xx from country xx relative of King X and I need someone to transfer $500, 000, 000 for me".

Sounds like the Nigerian scam to me. I had a friend who lost $1000 on one of these scams. They sent him a check for over the agreed upon amount and before cashing the check my friend sent the difference back which was $1000.

Yes, between the penis enlargement products (really amusing since I am a FEMALE), requests for help from people in countries I have never heard of, and my all time favorite - email directed to DELORES MILLER - I don't remember changing my name!!!!! We can't forget the emails from E-Bay & PayPal telling us that we need to reverify our account information. I have had a few of those, and the really stupid thing is they are sent to an email address that is not tied to my PayPal account, and I have never sold anything on EBay. It's astonishing the scams that are out there. Reminds me of the 'Solar Clothes Dryer' my mom saw an ad for when I was a kid - A clothes line pole and some clothes line! I have not added Maxwell Kian to my list of friends, but I'm sure it is only a matter of time! Thanks for the warning about him!

Yay! My first scam e-mail! I'm on the map! I feel like I've finally "arrived" on the eCommerce scene!

Well, at least it sure seems that way. I'll respond, but there's no way I'm shipping anything to Singapore without cash money up front. His web site is very fishy looking: http://bestkenthu.com/

Dear Sir or Madam,

I've seen your website and want to ask some question about it.

I want to buy the following which type just like shown on your

website. Before I continued to ask about your stuff, Please let me

know if you can manage the following :

Do you accept credit card (Mastercard or VISA) as a payment?

Could you ship via FedEX, DHL or UPS to SINGAPORE?

I'm waiting for your reply confirmation as soon as possible.

Best Regards,

Andre Liong

I currently receive about 40 (!!!) "emails" with the subject "It's John" or It's Lucy"... plus, a dozen penis enlargement pill and of course online-pharmacy emails where I could save up to 99%

Posted

I know this is all fun but the ones everyone should be careful of is the ones that they send an email saying you need to "urgently update your bank details" from hsbc, nationwide and so on before your account get closed, if you read the email in the back of your head you ask if this is real as it does look it and they give you a bank link? well they are NOT!!! no bank in this world would ask you for your details via email or over the phone so please do not fool for their tricks.

I know most here would not need to be told this but here in the UK hundreds if not thousands of people are being robbed, and i bet some of them said this would never happen to me....

Posted

yeah david is right!

this kind of bank and/or eBay or paypal email is very common also... I'd estimate I get about 10-15 of these daily. As my bank is a very uncommon one, none match it, but I'm sure many people get confused.

I got a pretty crazy one from "paypal" just 2 days ago and showed my dh how to rightclick it and view the sourcecode for the real URL a click would take you ... and we googled the IP: Uruguay, Montevideo ... yay baby.

i used to get this crap ALL THE TIME.

i got tired of it, so (with the help of the experts within these very forums !) i added this contribution: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ry/search,68758

granted, it is not fool proof, but the vast majority (nearly ALL) spams have been depleted. i'm hooked to my who's online and i do see them try! :D

Posted

That's a nice idea, eww. Not sure it would have helped against Kian though, and 98% of my spam does not come via my contact form. I know exactly what comes from where as all my contact us emails are logged with IP in my database (have VVC too), and I send cute html emails in my site design to myself ... puts a smile on m face when I receive those. So spammers in fact get my email from my website registration or my information page. NBD really I just delete the stuff I do not need.

This is a great new sport:

Called 419 scam baiting... wind up the scammer and humiliate them it came on one of the programs in the UK (graham norton i think) and decided to look into it further!

http://www.419eater.com/html/hall_of_shame.htm they even have a trophy room!!!

Plus new scam for businesses or investors beware:

A professional sounding US gent gave me a ring out the blue asking for investment into hydrocarbons (WTF are they i asked him continuously!) he then trys to push you into investing ?3K or so to get into a one off corporate meeting in London (or your country capital city) before this company "floats". This guy calls from hong kong has an american accent and claims to be from ALV group! a convincing chap... but i never take an offer from which i am cold called from. i then google searched the company as you do and found out there is a warning about ALV group (just type in alvgroup fraud and you will find investment scam result). I kept him on the line as long as possible because that was costing him money (calling from his offices in HK!).

just kept putting him off telling him to call me back next week and kept asking him the same questions... i kept hinting that i wanted to invest and proceeded to repeat myself what are hydrocarbons again?... i think he spent at least 2 hours on the phone to me altogether until he finally cottoned on i was not going to invest!... but i suspect he already made his money from some other unsuspecting people.

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up.

Did anyone else notice the same thing on the trophy room ? don't white people scam? expose them too.....

He is something that some of you might be interested and its 100% true as i dealt with the customers in person.

Around 9mts ago i was working for fedex in the uk a man in his middle 30s quite well to do come to the fedex counter and asked if i could find out where his two BMWs are?, i asked him to explain in more detail.

He said he got an phone call from an advert he placed looking for a top range bmw, the person on the other end said he had two lovely BMWs for sale and he was in Germany and would see both at a great price, he was over the moon he could keep one and sell the other for profit in the UK but he was suspect that this was too good too be true and asked for more details.

The man on the other end said it was all above board and that fedex has an exchange program where he ships the cars with fedex to a warehouse in the UK and then a fedex employee will send a letter to him saying that the cars are safe in fedex hands and to send the money to fedex via wire transfer and the cars will be sent to him and the cash to the other person, so he gave him a so called fedex number and the name of the person that would be dealing with it all, great he said fedex is a big company and i trust them. (alarm bells started to ring in my head fedex does not have a exchange program)

So about a week later an email went to the bloke who was waiting for the cars from fedex customer service saying it had two BMWs in the warehouse and that he could pop up to Scotland and see them if he like, and he could call mrxxx on xxxxxx fedex number London, so he did and the so called fedex person was charming, he said the cars was in safe hands and if he sent the money via wire transfer to him he would send the cars then forward the money to the other bloke, he was over the moon and he withdrew the money the few days later and sent the money to mrxx the so call fedex employee?.

I took a look at the emails that the bloke got from fedex and i will say for a minute or two i was fooled too, they had all of the fedex logos our customer service address and a copy of the agree forms to fill out, but for a couple of small details, 1, a few spelling error ( fedex does not send out forms with typos trust me) 2, the sender email address [email protected] or something like that ( fedex is [email protected]) but who would know that but fedex employees.

He waited 6 weeks and called that number but the number just keep ringing, he also call customer services but they could not help him, so he pop in to see me, i told him that fedex do not offer an exchange program and the email was @fedex.com so i think he should go to the police he was in shock and keep asking where his cars was and left a little upset.

He lost in total 45000 euros for car that should have cost 80000 euros so if it sound too good too be true it is most likely it is.

Fedex has nothing to do with scammers like this and can not stop people from copying their logos and making up false address.
