newbie: how to make credit card module work

Hi,

 

After searching for hours I am unable to find any useful info on what the credit card payment module does. I can see I can fill out an email address for sending the split credit card info to, but how does this work?

how do I recover the full number and why is the module not enabled once I go shopping even though I have installed it (also installed PayPal as option no.2).

 

Also what the heck is Authorize.net?

Is that a paid service for authorizing credit cards?

How does this work and how does it integrate with OsCommerce?

Which countries and currencies does it handle?

To use the creadit card module, you have to have your own credit card terminal or access to one. Authorize.net is a company that allows you to use theirs. You setup an account with them and when your customers charge on your site, the money gets routed to your bank. Authroize.net is one of the better ways of collecting payment but they are more expensive to use. THe credit card option is usually just as expensive plus you have to do all of the fraud checking.

My client has a terminal, so my question is how does the emailing work and why is that I can not select this option as a payment even though I enabled it? Where do I collect the full credit card number?

The number is split for security reasons. Half is emailed to you and half is in the orders section in admin. Do you have the option to use the module set to true in the module settings? Will other payment methods show up?
