New Installation Question

I am trying to install OSCommerce on a Fedora Core 5 system. Apache is running, and I have created a new empty MySQL database. Once I finally got around the register_global problem, (by editing the /etc/php.ini file), I now get hung up on the first installation screen. Since this is a new installation, I select "Install a New Online Store". Import Catalog Database and Automatic Configuration are both selected. When I hit the Continue button, the screen flashes and goes right back to the same screen, with the following in the web address - http://pwcserver/catalog/install/install.php?step=2. Selecting Continue does nothing.

 

I'm am now at a loss. Is it some variable not set right for MySQL, or what? Any clues would be appreciated.

I, too, am having this exact same problem, and would like to know if there's something I might be doing wrong.

I also have the same difficulties. Trying to install on a windows xp machine, apache2 and php5. I got it to work with php4 but the server I will be putting this on eventually is php5. I have register_globals set to On and register_long_arrays as well. It hangs at step 2. Any help would be appriciated
