Can somebody please tell me why we can't search the forum properly any longer??!!

It's totally impossible to for instance do an error message search like this:

"URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration".

All I get is:

"One or all of your search keywords were below 3 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please go back and increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords."

How the bl00dy hell is one supposed to go about building up a search string that only have words composed of three characters or more?!!?!??!?!

Should I try some pre-historic five-syllabe-word language or what??!

This is by far THE most stupid and non-people-friendly GEEK-programming invention that has ever struck the Internet! It takes us back to the early nineties when people didn't know any better and was in a total Yahoo-ish bliss about beeing able to search for something, anything, they just didn't care!

I've seen this stupidity on other newly updated forums using Invision Power Board as well and when I restrain myself, I can only say this to those IPS lightbulbs; "Congratulations on destroying previously good community forums!".

Now, Mr. Forum-Super-Admin; Please, pretty please, with sugar on top, turn that idiotic search setting OFF! If even present in the admin console...

"...and for all of you good people in the mid-west, sorry for my foul language  "

a search for division by zero brings

But division+by+zero brings a ton of results

Sure, but a more human friendly EXACT string search on google got me the results that one could get before on this forum. However with google, dead on perfect 12 hits, with no geekish IPS involvment:

"URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration" site:www.oscommerce.com/forums

Try this on the forum search and you really get results ;) :

file+access+disabled+server+configuration

Maybe if one could do an exact string search, the server wouldn't tie up a whole minute while searching for all the keywords and producing 5122 pages (!!!) of search result rubbish?

Thank God for google... (well, maybe not, but still...)

I'm now one happy camper! :D I'll just be using google to search on the forum from now on...

Or you could use Google!

site:www.oscommerce.com/forums URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration

Thanks for the tip! I figured that out earlier today...

If no one else want's to spew their "kind" words on this matter, admin, please go ahead and close the thread...

Hmm.. maybe that came out wrong... Meant fellow disgruntled forum searchers...

Don't know why so many use Google anyway. Google has gone mad.

I gave up on searching the forum my first try. Switched to yahoo and added oscommerce to the end of what I searched for and got top results.

like: file access disabled server configuration oscommerce

Or : change header image oscommerce

Bingo much faster than the forum. Yahoo is a search engine, oscommerce is not. It does the best it can with as many people searching it as they do. Not an admin problem but rather a software problem.
