Brandito Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Yo, After doing some research on shopping carts. I think I am going to go with OsCommerce. Just need to know a couple of things first... 1: Are there any SEO options for OsCommerce? To mod the URL's to make them SE friendly? 2: I would like to be able to assign a specific shipping cost to each individual item, is this possible? I need to do this because my items will vary alot as far as shipping costs. 3: I would like to use paypal website payments pro, can I do this with OsCommerce? Alternitively I would use a merchant like www.authorize.net but I would prefer to use paypal website payments pro. That way I will only be using one merchant and I can still accept credit cards right on my website without the customer having to go to paypal.com. 4: Can I assign meta keywords, and meta titles for each page? Or is this something that will have to be done globally? Sorry if any of these questions have been ansered before. I looked around the forum .. But I could not find any ansers. Thanks, Brandon. B)
tkeats Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Search the forums and contributions. There is a host of information that will answer your questions. The ultimate answer is, Yes, all three can be done, it comes down to how much work you want to put into each depending on which contribution you opt to use and indeed, even if one is available. I do recall seeing SEO Search Engine friendly urls in the forums. Seek, and ye shall find. B) 1 - There are about ten contributions that deal with SEO.2 - There is an Individual Shipping per Product contribution/ 3 - There is a Paypal Webste Payment Pro contribution. 4 - You need to install one of the meta tags contributions. I suggest Header Tags. Brandito Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 Awesome. Thanks guys. B) Just 2 more things. 1: I was looking at the templates on templatemonster.com. And I found several I like .. But I have been told that it is extremely hard to install templates. Is this true? 2: I read that the admin panel is not password protected .. What would I need to do to protect it? Thanks, Brandon.
Jack_mcs Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 1 - Relatively speaking it is not difficult. If oyu haven't made any changes to your shop, you can just upload the files. If you did, you need to compare them. But it is just the files inthe root and a few in the includes directory. That still a large number, around 40, but most of the changes are the same so it goes fast. The main problem you will have is after the fact. The templates change the code so that it is not fully compatible with some contributions. 2 - Look at recent posts. This question gets asked all of the time and I just answered one such occurrence today.
