Help on categories infobox

Hello all, I need to see if anyone knows of a contribution that can call images to basically form a categories infobox like the generic .gif one that I have now.

 

I am afraid what I have now will load to slowly, so I would like to use css or something similar to acheive the same thing. Not sure if something is out there already, I looked for a bit and tried a few but I was not happy with them. So I figured I would ask the oSc guru's! ;o)

Or should I even worry? 5% of my traffic from last year was dial-up, the rest was DSL or better.
