haggisv
Can anyone suggest if switching on the Gzip compression is useful? I searched the forum and could only find postings from people who had problems when gzip compression was on.... Have these problems now been fixed? Iggy
Depends on your server setup whether GZIP will work out of the box or not. GZIP works on servers where it's enabled and on browsers that support it (pretty much everything) to compress files in transit. If you have a busy store, lots of graphics, huge included js files and such GZIP compression can speed up the display of your pages considerably. If not, eh, why worry? :) Iggy Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
Jack_mcs
There is generally nothing wrong with using it but it should n't be set to more than 1, or maybe 2. After that, you will start to acutally experience a slow down. On some slow servers, it is not a good idea to use it since they can't handle the extra load and your site will slow down. The best thing to dio is to measure your sites load speed before and after setting it. That will tell you if it will help your site or not. Jack My host is Jumba, and i assume their servers are quite fast. Even if it only reduces bandwidth it's probably worthwhile already... Just a little concerned that some epople can no longer view pages....
Guest
i have seen seo contributions that won't work with gzip - why not? what does gzip archive that would mess with a url structure?
