Starnge Request

Hi

I have a strange one here.

I'm trying to talk a prospective client into having an ecommerce site, but gradually, over a period of time. He doesn't feel ready yet. What I'm intending doing is commenting out various features of software until he is ready, and then bringing them back in when he's convinced. At present all he wants is just a site that he can update products, prices and product descriptions without going the full distance with ecommerce. Is oscommerce suitable for such a venture?

Thanks for your opinion.

All you really have to do is comment out the Buy Now buttons, etc. and the links to login/shopping cart/checkout.

Doing it in osC is a good idea if that is what he will want in the future as the site will already be fully indexed by then and you won't have to worry about page redirects as you would with fully changing the site later.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I've had a little play around and it's possible to even comment out features in the admin area too which is very cool!

I'm struggling to find 2 things though. I've knocked out some of the right and left columns but any ideas where the "Welcome Guest! Would you like to log yourself in? Or would you prefer to create an account?" line is coded? And funny you should mention it, I can't locate where the "reviews" and "Add to Cart" code is either.

A pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks again

If it is text it is in the languages files, try in english.php. All the other files have their corresponding file names.

The main page code along with the next page where the list of all the products in the category are is index.php. For the reviews and buy now buttons they are near the bottom of index.php.

Hi

In case anyone ever needs to find this..the text is indeed in english.php(or language) but then you also need to knock out TEXT_GREETING_GUEST variable in functions/general.php.
