Products in the home page

I'm only an intermediate PHP user, and I'm using the OSC TemplateMonster template in the middle of designing this site:

I need it to display 8 products, not 4. I.e., four rows of two, not two rows of two. Does anyone know where in the index file the code for changing this would be found? What would I need to change it to?

 

Also, is there a way to set it to display random products instead of the most recently modified? We're adding them in batches by manufacturer and whenever we do that, we have all of the same manufacturer on the home page. Thank you in advance for your help.
