PayPal Integration

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to ecommer and oscommerce and I believed the hype that integrating Paypal modules was as easy as enabling the module in the payment modules. I have a paypal account and I have oscommerce with paypal enabled. However I cannot even get osc to go to the check out, never mind paypal.

Is there an idiots guide to get past problems like this?

Any help or pointers greatly appreciated asap.

David,

I know how frustrating it is when there are so many "experts" here that could help you but sadly can't spare a few minutes, as forum go its not great unless you are a complete code head. Rant over. I am only pi$$ed off as I though this place would have been more helpful.

Anyway, I have my cart working and am a newbie at this so hang in there its not all doom and gloom. I used the video tutorials that my hosting company provides you can get them here:

http://support.novara.ie/kb/ look int he left marhin and click on Knowledge base> tutorial movies, then in the main window scroll down to the OSCommerce section and you will see about 16 movies. Thats where I started. From your initial post it appears you dont have the paypal payment module installed, but thats just my guess on it. Expert advice welcome :-"

Good luck

David,

First go into your admin section and click on modules in the menu on the left and Payment Modules should show up. If not click on Payment in the menu. Click on PayPal and make sure that it is installed. If a button with a + install is visible the PayPal module is not installed. Click on the button to install it. If it is installed click the edit button and make sure the True option is selected under Enable PayPal Module. Then make sure your PayPal account payment email address is entered correctly in the E-Mail Address slot. Select the appropriate currency in the Transaction Currency menu (we only allow U.S. Dollars so that is what I have selected) and choose a Payment Zone if appropriate (we have ours set to none). Then in the Set Order Status section pick what status you want the orders to be filed as (we have it set to Pending). In the Sort Order Display type the number that corresponds to the order you want the PayPal option displayed in the list of payment options during check out. Now click the Update button.

After you have done all of this, log into your PayPal account. Click on the Profile link in the upper right of the page. Under Selling Preferences click on the Website Payment Preferences link. On that page you will want to set Auto Return to On. Below that in the Return URL space enter the address of your checkout_process.php such as http://www.mysite.com/catalog/checkout_process.php where mysite is obviously the URL of your site and catalog is whatever folder you have the osCommerce cart installed in. Below that set Data Payment Transfer to On.

This should take care of the problem if you are using the standard PayPal module. Sometimes these forums are a monkey to find answers on and not everyone here seems to understand that we're not all programmers and code gurus. :( Hope this takes care of the problem. :)

I could be mistaken but I don't think you need to put it anywhere, I didn't. If PayPal is working correctly for you I wouldn't worry about it.

Darkwolf, thanks for that response mate, it is gold - informative and logical. David, how did you get on with the IPN install?
