osCommerce

The e-commerce.

To template or Not to template, that is the question.

The template makers usually change the code in the index.php, header.php and footer.php files and ignor the column_left and column_right files. Any changes you made to those files would have to be added into the new code. Plus, you couldn't just copy the new template to install it. You would need to go through the files in the root to make the appropriate changes so the appearance is correct.

Also, in addition to what Jack said, if you ever plan on installing contributions, many contributions conflict with various template systems like the STS (simple template system) contribution. You'd really have to know your PHP coding.
