Guest
Hi, My store www.bigmanstuff.com just went live. I love the osCommerce product and have found it very easy to use - particularly it's integration with SECPay - it just works! I did have to fiddle about a little with the CVV2 and AVS checking, but SECPay support were very helpful. I've also used lots of contributions, and have found the forums particularly helpful. I've used the following: QTpro v1.0 - Quantity Tracking Professional (Used to add variants of products - in my case combinations of sizes, e.g. inside leg and waist sizes for jeans) Article Manager v1.4 (Great for creating search engine friendly content) Down for Maintenance (Haven't used this in anger yet - and hope not to have to) Header tags controller (Essential for creating and maintaining page keywords and descriptions) I've also spent a considerable amount of time formatting the site, and adding images. I'd be very grateful for any comments.
Guest
Hi there! Great product idea. 1 - turn off the product count in the categories infobox - no sense in telling your customers you only have one item in a certain category. A good way to keep them from exploring. 2 - Good use of anchor tags in the main text - but perhaps use: big and tall man t-shirts, big and tall man jeans, etc ... better use of keywords. 3 - Contact Us page should have your physical address, alternate email addys, phone number, etc. Gives people more trust that you are a real, serious company. 4 - Ditch the stock osc clipart like on the policies page, etc. That's all I have offhand. A great start!
everyth5
I would get rid of the " Monday 21 August, 2006 7676 requests since Monday 17 July, 2006 " in the footer, not needed. The only other comment I would make is to check some spelling. ::o: in the following. RIGHT content included on this site is the property of BigManStuff (WMR ? Getting knit picky now aren't I? Other than that it all looks fine and seems to work fine. Kelvin
Guest
Hi, Thanks guys. It's good to have more pairs of eyes looking over the site. I've addressed the spelling mistake (as it was easy) and will work on the other suggestions. Thanks again.

Hi, That's a great suggestion. I don't know why I didn't think of it! I found a good contribution, amended the images, included a SECPay logo and uploaded it all. mark27uk3
Not bad at all, but I have one suggestion. Take a leaf out of other companies books that sell fashion for the larger person dont emphasize it by having a (and putting it bluntly) a fat hippy in a shirt that does not suit him with a photo taken at the worst angle on your front page. take a look at the likes of Evans who cater for larger ladies and you will see that they do not emphasize the large but more the fashion. I am not trying to be rude but it just makes the front page look trashy. (And this is coming from a bloke!) Mark Lifes a bitch, then you marry one, then you die! The premise of the site is that we're selling stuff that larger people, including Andy actually wear. There's a world of difference between how the same shirt looks on a XL or 2XL guy against how it looks on a 4XL+ guy. Maybe we could change the image. There are a few more. Take a look at the articles section. I'm interested in your feedback on those images too. I'm not offended - thank you for being honest. Actually your comments did make me giggle. I'm not sure Andy will find it quite so amusing, but there you are!

To be honest though, it's good to hear some feedback of all kinds, all we want to do is make the business go well. If pictures of me on the site brings it down a bit, i guess i'll just have to model for our competitors ;) but seriously... call me a hippy again and yer dead meat! :P anders
abra123cadabra
I had a quick look at the shop mentioned for larger ladies and I have to say that it's exactly what these guys don't want to do. They don't want to show their products on normal sized models. It has to be a big man so that I can see how it really looks. The ladies site has a section for underwear. The picture coming up is probably a model size 12 or 14. No big tummy or bottom and a normal sized chest. The shirts don't look big and I doubt they would suit my oversized and out of shape friend. I prefer the images of Andy because it shows that big men can wear the products. Didn't have much time for a complete review of the shop as it gave me the tip for the article manager contribution. This is exactly what I was looking for so I had to implement that into my own shop together with tabs for the product details. I'm very pleased with this. Thanx for the tip! abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome. Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong. mark27uk3
Hi Andy, I did not mean to offend or be abusive towards you, its just that pic was a little unflattering! The new pic is much better, I think it must have been the angle that the other one was taken at. If I were you I would change the header as the link to the shopping directory is a bit crappy and definately get a contact number in there, also I would scrap the image thumbnail on the product info page and/or make the image quite a bit larger so the customer can see the product without the extra click. Guest
I totally agree with what you and Andy are trying to do with the images. But I do also have to agree that the "aerial" angle is not the best, since you don't show the product in the best way. I am a very "fluffy" woman, so I appreciate the normal folk modeling *grins* Perhaps have your models in natural positions - leaning against counters, sitting at nice desks, talking on the phone = normal everyday stances and sitting positions that show what the clothing looks like in normal everyday uses. You're doing a great job - please keep it up!
rebugger
I think the photo gives the site a nice trustworthy feel, though you might want to throw a nice pair of shoes on for the next one. :D You may want to get rid of the "This product was added to our catalog on X" info in the product info file. Some of the boxes like Categories and Shopping Cart have one hard edge and one rounded edge, yet the others are all hard-edged. Not sure if you've intentionally left it this way, bu thought i'd point it out to you. it's a well presented, clean looking site. good luck with the business. j. Guest
Hi all, I've been very busy on the site, and have added a number of new contributions and enhancements. If any of you are having trouble, don't hesitate to drop me a line. I'm not an expert by any means, but having wrestled with some of the code, I have a fair idea of what I'm doing. New contributions are: Credit cards (Simply displays an infobox containing graphics of the payment options - I recommend using thsi contribution as it gives the customers a clue as to how they can pay before they start shopping) OT Discount Coupon Codes (For promotional offers - this works great!) Newsletter/Maillist (For capturing email addresses without having to create an account) Most recently I've modified the product_info.php page to display multiple images. There are a few contributions out there that do something similar - but I really wanted the style that you see on the site. I might even be persuaded to 'contributionise' it! As ever, happy to receive any comments. Dan...

Guest
Your site looking great! How did you get the "click thumbnails to enlarge image" feature to not open in a popup window? thanks! Hi, Thanks for the feedback! I wrote a little bespoke code to do this. I really ought to have done it properly, but we wanted to do away with the popups and add more images quickly. The entire product_info.php is reloaded each time you click on an image thumbnail (note the new parameter image_id in the address bar). The main image within product_info.php is now displayed full size, and simply without any anchor tags: echo tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . $product_info['products_image'], $product_info['products_name'], 'hspace="5" vspace="5"'); To get the thumbnails (really quick and dirty this), I look for a directory with the same name as the product identifier (e.g. SL-001) and look through looking for jpegs, gifs and such. I display each one as a thumbnail and assign it an image_id, so that when it's clicked, it displays as the main image. When I get some time, I'll wrap all of this stuff up and create a contribution out of it. D...

It allows you to set the page title and keywords within the product admin section.
