Guest
Hey, My site is now about 90% complete, just need to upload the rest of the products and sort out a few minor issues. Please can you have a look at it and let me know your honest opinions so I can make any required changes. The site is: C. F. Hall & Co. Ltd. The Audio category is how the rest of the categories will look once the products have been uploaded. I look forward to your comments! Andrew Yuen
A very simple and easy to navigate website. I really like how you kept a simple color scheme. I only have a couple of suggestions: Create a logo and modify the words "C.F. Hall & Co. Ltd." It looks a little plain to me. There seems to be too much white space on the lower left portion of the main page caused by a redundant infobox to the right (the seal and the 128 bit encryption infobox seems redundant IMHO). Guest
Thank you for your feedback, I agree with you on the logo issue, it definitely needs some more interest up there. With regard to the SSL image and Seal do you not feel that this boosts customers confidence by informing them that the site is secure. Sure enough most people look for the padlock icon but do you not feel it is beneficial to state the security as well? Thanks
♥Monika in Germany
I could swear I have seen this site before ;-) couple of suggestions: 1) in the left col, boxes are very near to each other, not on the right ... disturbs my need for symmetry 2) for a structured site like yours, the non aligning images/product names in the featured products box (homepage) jump into my eye. Use this to repair http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ll/search,align 3) shift the content of the credit cards box (no header needed) to the left of the footer text, the geotrust logo seal to the right of it. It will free up space and look more ordered, and will stress this info more which is exactly what you want. 4) with the clean blue lines at the top and bottom, and the boxes indented due to padding, I would try to connect the footer blue bar with the 1px top blue line you have below the header bar ... it would form a box and I think it would anchor the page. Worth a try, could be ditched if you hate it. :-) Monika addicted to writing code ... can't get enough of databases either, LOL! my toolbox: Textpad - Compare and Merge - phpMyAdmin - WS_FTP - Photoshop - How to search the forum Interactive Media Award July 2007 ~ category E-Commerce my advice on the forum is for free, PMs where you send me work are considered consultation which I charge for ... Andrew Yuen
I have no dispute that the SSL Seal boosts customers confidence (it really does), my recommendation was to remove the secure ordering infobox and that big lock since it takes up much more space on your right side then necessary. Having the geotrust seal and a big lock and short description is redundant in my opinion. I would keep the seal and add a text link that says learn more about 128 bit encryption below the seal which will lead to a page with more info. That is just my suggestion to get rid of some of the white space in the lower left corner of your main page. Guest
I could swear I have seen this site before ;-) Hehe, yep I think you have, probably in the post about the enlarge images not working. Well they have completely stopped working now on my computer so I think it must be a setting on my computer. Thanks for the comments, I have made some changes. 1. I'm having problems changing the spacing of the infoboxes but i'll keep working on that. 2. I've uploaded the new files to align the featured products box, not really seeing a change but again i'll look into that one. 3. Moved  4. One of the first designs had a vertical line along each side but I decided I wasn't too keen on it and preferred the open edged look as the site is quite full anyway and the lines made it feel more cramped in. Very impressive, one of the best I've seen. Thank you very much :D I have no dispute that the SSL Seal boosts customers confidence (it really does), my recommendation was to remove the secure ordering infobox and that big lock since it takes up much more space on your right side then necessary. I've removed the padlock image and just kept the seal which I've moved to the footer, this has removed all that white space that was there before. To the left of it is the link to 'site security' so I think people should find it if they are worried. Thanks again for all of your comments, I would like to know what you think of the changes. heritage777
I use IE - when I click on your category televisions, for example, it shows the wording to several items, but no images, when I click on one of the items, it shows an image should be there (the box with a red x and the image properties). Hey, Were these product images or other images? What browser are you using? I haven't had any problems with the images before :( Thanks Ann B. Guest
Nice clean site! Question, other than click on your header logo (store name), how else can one return to the index page? There's no breadcrumb trail that I saw. Also - I like the Customer Services layout. Doing something with your header logo/store name - adding color/image - would add that missing "ummpfff" your site is missing - Otherwise, I can find no real fault with your site all. Excellent work! Best of luck with your business!

At the moment I have just changed the Out of Stock message in admin to read 'usually available in 7-10 days' as they can get nearly all the items in this timeframe when they are out of stock. Ideally I would like to add other times to the stock which they can get sooner but I haven't looked into that yet. Nice clean site! Question, other than click on your header logo (store name), how else can one return to the index page? There's no breadcrumb trail that I saw. Also - I like the Customer Services layout. Best of luck with your business! Thanks for the comments. Erm at the moment the only way to return to the home page is by clicking on the logo, I removed the breadcrumb trail quite early on but I think I will look into replacing that as it does make the navigation a little easier. I'm getting there with the customer services bit, still need to add a site map and create some images for the jargon buster etc. Again I agree the logo is the missing element so I am working on that one too! Still got lots to work on! :D Thanks again! Maybe something like this? ...just a thought. Larry Yer I like it, still nice and simple. I think that all it needs is a few images up there like that logo to make it stand out. Thank you again for all your comments! Very much appreciated. chrisofgcc
Looks good. I'm working on recustomizing ours again (http://www.godscountrycamo.com/store) since when I go to the orders.php page in admin, it's completely blank. Was curious, how did you get the "Deal of the Week" in there? Is that something you incorporated through OS Commerce, or did you do something very different? Was curious, how did you get the "Deal of the Week" in there? Is that something you incorporated through OS Commerce, or did you do something very different? Thanks for the comment, the deal of the week on the index page is just an image that I have inserted into index.php with a link to the product_info.php page for that particular product. The code I have used (not necessarily the correct way to do it!) is: <a href="<?php echo tep_href_link('product_info.php','cPath=25_41&products_id=45'); ?>" class="main"><img src="images/testback1.gif" alt="Deal of the Week" width="447" height="150" border="0"></a> nothing special ! no design. just display . Would you like to expand upon that so maybe I have something that I can work on? It is an online shop afterall and the ultimate purpose is to display goods that customers can then subsequently purchase.

Guest
Very nice and clean site.. some images dont appear (Firefox) and i dont fink your 'Complete Address' botton is working on the create account page...:S what contribution did you use to do your 'Browse Products' navigation? Thanks for the comments, most of the products that I have uploaded are test products and so some of them don't have any images. If it isn't a product image that isn't displaying then I don't know why that would be. The complete address button will work when we purchase some credits for our account, we use postcode anywhere for it and their credits expire after 6 months and as we are still unsure of when our site will go live we haven't bought any credits. I think the contribution I used for the categories is this one: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2802/ but it was a while ago when I did that so not too sure. Anyway thanks again. boxtel
Thanks I would not show categories with no content, probably because you are still uploading so consider this a warning LOL (there first time). I would also not show "product description" header if there is none, looks like a broken promise. I do like clean designs but I agree that your logo text is a little too plain. I would make the car image on "next day delivery" a little smaller, saves gas to. same for the padlock, only your products deserve that size. in your breadcrumb you show the product name and that appears just above.....the products name, that is a little too much product name I see that my current delivery cost always remains zero in the shopping cart, I don't mind but I thought you might. I am invited to "Enter your postcode and click complete address to complete" yet I cannot find it. maybe because a javascript error is generated on the create account page. Indeed some of your images do not show, category as well as product. you need to check your cookie setting as my browser rejects them I find the quick search "go" button relatively small compared to its header. I would remove that strange "search in product description" option as every search should search exactly there, always. Why not show some more products on the shopping cart page when it is empty, that big white desert makes everybody sad. I see that you are experimenting with producttabs, I assure you that that version does not fly without javascript and as such no spider will see your product text. well, just for starters. Guest
Well boxtel you certainly gave me some work to do :'( and by the sounds of it you saw more work for me LOL. Thanks for the comments, i've made some changes to the site today, my responses to your comments are shown below. :D I would not show categories with no content, probably because you are still uploading so consider this a warning LOL (there first time).Yep still uploading so there won't be any empty categories when live I would also not show "product description" header if there is none, looks like a broken promise. All products will have a description when the site goes live I do like clean designs but I agree that your logo text is a little too plain. In process of designing new logo I would make the car image on "next day delivery" a little smaller, saves gas to. I've made the image a little smaller but I quite like it :P hehe same for the padlock, only your products deserve that size. Same as above in your breadcrumb you show the product name and that appears just above.....the products name, that is a little too much product name Changed to show 'Product details' on the product info page instead of name. I see that my current delivery cost always remains zero in the shopping cart, I don't mind but I thought you might. It depends what you added to your basket, i'm using individual shipping costs so only a couple of items have a delivery charge at the moment so you picked the wrong ones LOL I am invited to "Enter your postcode and click complete address to complete" yet I cannot find it. maybe because a javascript error is generated on the create account page. No idea about this, the button displays correctly for myself and other people who have reviewed it on here. I don't have any credits for the postcode anywhere account at the moment so it won't fill in the address yet. Indeed some of your images do not show, category as well as product. This is where I haven't uploaded images for the products or categories, these products and categorys have been temporarily removed so all images will now display you need to check your cookie setting as my browser rejects them I think the Product tabs were using session only cookies for their persistance setting, but that has been disabled so no cookies should be used. I find the quick search "go" button relatively small compared to its header. Made a bit bigger I would remove that strange "search in product description" option as every search should search exactly there, always. Removed and added a hidden field so it always searches the description Why not show some more products on the shopping cart page when it is empty, that big white desert makes everybody sad. Added the featured products to shopping cart page when it is empty I see that you are experimenting with producttabs, I assure you that that version does not fly without javascript and as such no spider will see your product text. Yep just experimenting at the moment, thanks for the info I will look into a different way of showing the information then . . . well, just for starters. nelslynn
Nice, clean site. The only other thing I would change is currently the Address Line 1 and 2 labels are one two lines (using Mozilla). How (or what contribution) did you use for the delete button (product) in the shopping cart (as opposed to the check box)? Thanks,

I have adjusted the create_account page so Address Line 1 and 2 are now on one line (hopefully)! I don't think I used a contribution for the remove button (I can't remember) I think I might have used some code from a thread, but anyway here is a contribution that looks like it does the same thing. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4179
