aflores3
I've never posted any of my sites (about 4 total) to a board like this because I'm afraid of what people will say. I guess in order for my site to be the best it can be, I have to swallow my pride and listen to a good ol' fashion critiquing... Baby Noveltees as i'm writing this, I'm still having trouble with my SSL which I hope my host can help figure out soon. I'm open to any and all advice. lostndazed
Ok, I'll give it a go. I went to look at Baby Talk -> Gwait Kisso. Picked it out just because the little t-shirt was green. Then I noticed there were options. Ok, I can see that might be needed, especially for sizes. So I picked a size. Looked at the other options, Style (Onsie), Variation (White). Didn't want a white onsie. I "wanted" the green t-shirt shown in the picture. I tried to put the green t-shirt in the cart. Whoops! I got a JS alert: "You must select product options before adding this product to your cart." So, as a customer, who do I contact to say I need help with this order? Might be nice to have a help button somewhere around during the order process. Also, it's been awhile since I've had little ones. LOL! It took me a minute to remember what a onsie was! So I looked at the pictures on the page, and neither the onsie nor the t-shirt have a label describing the style. Seems picky, (wouldn't parents know what they are buying?), but there are always the clueless relatives who might buy these as gifts. Anyway, the site looks very nice. aflores3
lostndazed, first of all, thank you very much for visiting my site and giving advice... as far as the options are concerned, i was afraid this 'bug' would be an issue. i havent been able to figure out how to offer the options without making hundreds of very similar products. let me explain using the Gwait Kisso example: we only offer the color Green in T-Shirts. We do not offer Green Onesies. Therefore when you choose "onesie" as a style, the Green Option is taken out of the Variation pull-down. Likewise, we do not offer T-Shirts in 24Mo sizes. If you choose size 24 Mo, your only other option is Onsie, and from there you can only choose White. So the customer is looking at the Green Shirt, but only has options for a white onesie. I knew this was going to be an issue because a customer, such as yourself, sees a Green garment, wants the Green garment, but isnt given the Green option. It makes sense to me, because i know there are no green onesies, but i realize to a potential customer that it could be confusing. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can make this less confusing? should I just make multiple products for the different variations? I'm afraid this would clutter my site. About the the labels regarding the styles under the pictures... this is something that never crossed my mind but seems to be an extremely valid point. I will have to develop a hack for More_Pics that will allow this. Thanks again, i've been eagerly awaiting comments for a few days now. I appreciate your time. osCommerce V 2.2 ms 2 Current Contributions: Points and Reward Module | More_Pics_6 for 2.2 ms2 | Ultimate SEO URLs | Automatic Store Feeds v3.0 | Google XML Sitemap w/ Admin | New Attribute Manager | Quickbooks Import QBI | First Item $X, Additional Items $Y Shipping ...some custom hacks/tweaks, and probably a few more contributions I've overlooked
spax
Great site!!! I think it works on every level and I think you will have a lot of success. Well done! Just an idea for your attributes issue. Couldn't you put a "More Info" link in there and make it like your Point Program FAQ page - which I think is very good also btw? Maybe even a question mark gif! One other Tini point (it took me a while to get that one  ). Where lostndazed is talking about the Onsie, you call it Onesie. I would imagine you call it correct but on the site, it is spelled Onsie. Again, well done. You have done a great job.
warrenerjm
Hi Abel Really nice site. I am British, so have never heard of onsie,or onesie for that matter! :P I presume you mean the "babygrows" :D I noticed a couple of typo's on your privacy page. doesn/'t & you/'ve & customer/'s Think you were using the \' command? Took a while, but I get what you mean by the colours white & green availablility. Other than that good luck. Julie
aflores3
Spax, Thanks a million for the kind words! it is nice to work so hard on a project and have a complete stranger, without any sort of bias, tell you that you've done a good job. About your suggestions, I do plan on putting a "More Info" type link. my original idea was to post the dimensions of the shirts so people can have more of an idea about how the shirts/onesies will fit according to measurements. I will use that opportunity to explain the attributes and how they work. I will probably change the write up on my index.php to more of a "how the site works" instead of the "about us" we have there now. The issue with onesie vs onsie. I've actually seen this word written both ways. The only reason I went with onesie was because Wikipedia had it spelled that way. However, if a potential customer Googles "onsie" theoretically, my site will never come up. It is a difference of being correct (according to wikipedia) vs being available to customers. Not sure how i'll battle this one. warrenerjm, you bring up a good point, onesie nor onsie probably make any sense to people outside of the U.S. for the time being, I only offer my goods to U.S. residents, but sometime in the near future, I will want to expand to all corners of the globe. Maybe i'll use the "More Info" page to specify that "Onesie" is a "Babygrows" which is also a "Creeper" etc. Thanks for pointing out the typos. I will be sure to correct those... by the way, i noticed in your post you had a typo... you typed "colours white & green" :D when i think you meant "colors" :P thanks again osCommerce V 2.2 ms 2 Current Contributions: Points and Reward Module | More_Pics_6 for 2.2 ms2 | Ultimate SEO URLs | Automatic Store Feeds v3.0 | Google XML Sitemap w/ Admin | New Attribute Manager | Quickbooks Import QBI | First Item $X, Additional Items $Y Shipping ...some custom hacks/tweaks, and probably a few more contributions I've overlooked

excell
Absolutely appealling designwise...lovelyuse of colour and the funky nav links - very fitting for the audience...nice & happy. With your problem with the attributes for the products, you need to asign appropriate attributes to EACH product... I've built a store where each product had different variables and I have no clue about how we managed it but we did... something about adding tables to the admin... I'll ask my tech person to drop by if he thinks he can help. To make the store viable, I would say you need to overcome this problem. I think it will be worth it for you. aflores3
excell, thank you for the encouraging words. going back to the same Gwait Kisso example, i've added a small "Availability" section. do you guys/gals think this will suffice for my customers? will they be able to easily look at the table and see what different styles/colors/sizes we offer, then go to attributes dropdowns to specify? i just trying to avoid having a separate product for each different color i offer. I've only added this table to the Gwait Kisso product. if you start browsing the site and looking at different products, you will not see what i'm talking about. if everyone tells me the "availability section will work, I'll add it to all products. Thanks in advance. btw, has anyone noticed that the border around my entire site and the horizontal rules dynamically change colors (colours :D )? i wanted something different yet subtle. osCommerce V 2.2 ms 2 Current Contributions: Points and Reward Module | More_Pics_6 for 2.2 ms2 | Ultimate SEO URLs | Automatic Store Feeds v3.0 | Google XML Sitemap w/ Admin | New Attribute Manager | Quickbooks Import QBI | First Item $X, Additional Items $Y Shipping ...some custom hacks/tweaks, and probably a few more contributions I've overlooked
excell
i just trying to avoid having a separate product for each different color i offer I cannot help but think that you have this backwards! You should perhaps think of the products that you offer first... they are the products and they come in different colours and sizes. Why not - the products are Tshirts & Onsies, you can provide similar products when someone is looking into purchasing a style of Tshirt - similar product could be Onsie of that style???? I think you have a confusion issue when you are speaking about style because at one moment style means TShirt/Onsie and at the same time you speak of style being about the design on the product. It needs to be clear for the customer. Maybe I don't know enough about what is available in osCommerce and the modules etc. but one thing I do know and that is - if you are not crystal clear about your offer, you will lose customers. :o It's worth going one extra mile to get this sorted, hang in there
alansch
Nice site, Aflores3. I think though that you are trying to do too much with your product options. It seems as if you are trying to reduce your total number of products, but I can't really see why. What you have currently set up with the javascripted drop down option selectors for size/style/variation is quite confusing and frustrating for the user. :'( The availability section (as you've set up in Gwait Kisso) helps somewhat. If you can hack the system to display this as a 'short description' in the category listing, it would be good. I feel that you would be better off splitting the styles - create separate categories for tees and onesies (and any other styles you have) and set up the current categories (slogan type) as sub-categories. The other way around would probably work too but might be a bit more cumbersome. Then you can have size and colour as your option selectors. Size is good as a drop down selector box, but it might be better to have the available colours displaying in a list box rather than a drop down box. That way the available colours can be seen at a glance. I hope you find my maunderings and mutterings of some use :D
aflores3
ok, I see what people are trying to tell me... tonight, i'm going to backup my database and then move around the categories... i will have 4 main categories (for now) T-Shirts Onesies Ringer Tees Ringer Onesies in each category, i will have 16 sub-categories (this won't be too redundant?) that will be the 16 cats. that are on my site now upon doing this, potential customers will know exactly what they're getting on a product page regarding type of garment. they'll simply choose the size and color. I'll also add a "Maybe you'll be interested in this" type of cross selling module to show people viewing a Onesie that we offer the same type of garment in a t-shirt concern: Google and other SE wont register this as "duplicate content" ? osCommerce V 2.2 ms 2 Current Contributions: Points and Reward Module | More_Pics_6 for 2.2 ms2 | Ultimate SEO URLs | Automatic Store Feeds v3.0 | Google XML Sitemap w/ Admin | New Attribute Manager | Quickbooks Import QBI | First Item $X, Additional Items $Y Shipping ...some custom hacks/tweaks, and probably a few more contributions I've overlooked

everyth5
Hi. Nice site. Nice story. I see you have the same story on the index page as in the About Us page. Was that on purpose? ;) I LOVE the way you have your FAQ section done with the popdown information areas. Fantastic. Please let me know what contribution that was. Other than the About Us page, unless that was on purpose, BRAVO! ! ! Love your site. Kelvin
aflores3
everyth5, thanks for the feedback yeah, the story is actually on the index page as a placeholder. My wife is the one that writes the content and i'm waiting on her... i will actually use a paragraph that explains the products and our site instead of the story. the FAQ section actually came with the ## POINTS AND REWARDS MODULE V1.00 ## module. I cant take ANY credit at all since I didn't customize it one bit. upon looking at the script, it appears you can use this FAQ page relatively easily by hacking in your own content. it doesn't seem too difficult. thanks again. osCommerce V 2.2 ms 2 Current Contributions: Points and Reward Module | More_Pics_6 for 2.2 ms2 | Ultimate SEO URLs | Automatic Store Feeds v3.0 | Google XML Sitemap w/ Admin | New Attribute Manager | Quickbooks Import QBI | First Item $X, Additional Items $Y Shipping ...some custom hacks/tweaks, and probably a few more contributions I've overlooked

Hi Abel Like Kelvin, I too like how your FAQ appears. I have the V1.6 of Points & rewards, which is great, but I do not understand how to hack codes. Any chance you could go through what I/we have to do to hack deep silvers code please? :D Thanks Julie
