Guest
I have set my site a few months ago (www.keadz.com) and worked decently. Orders can be purchased using checks, money orders or Paypal. On an occassion, I received an email from Paypal letting me know that I had a payment from a buyer. Apparently, Paypal doesn't give you a detail on the transaction; it just tell you that an order for a xx amount has been paid. When checking through admin, I see the buyer has registered but there are no orders placed. After a few attempts, I learn that the buyer paid thru Paypal and never returned to my site to finish the transaction. I feel pretty dumb contacting the buyer to ask what items, she/he has purchased. Can anybody give me a hand on that? Thanks
abra123cadabra
A quick forum search on paypal and order should give you a lot of results to this very common question. Anyway, you already know that this happens when the customer doesn't return to your page after successfully paying with paypal. The orders are only logged once the customer comes back to your shop. With the payment received, you can only contact the customer or you could log into their account to see what's in the cart and if that matches the payment you received. For future cases you could install an order logging or paypal IPN contribution. This way the orders get logged before the customer is transferred to the payment gateway but in case they don't return, the cart is still filled and you need to empty it. It just solves the issue of having to ask the customer what they bought. abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome. Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong. mtbmed
I have my site working BUT I have had a few people that must have interrupted the process or did not allow the return to my site to happen. As a result, I received word that their payment is received but I have no record of the order. Is there a way I can 'add' their item to the orders? or fix their cart so it is completed without having them resubmit? I can tell what they ordered by the amount, but once they have paid I really can't ask them to do it over. I know I can delete orders but no way to add/fix ones in already? Guest
Read my blog entry about Paypal. Then go ahead and install the Paypal IPN contribution after you fix the current ones. My blog can be accessed by my profile.
mtbmed
Thanks I will try that. Actually earlier today one of the people in question just told me her password and asked if I would fix the problem.. OK :-) that was easy but I knew her personally. I went live with this last night and already 4 out of 10 orders with same problem - they interrupt the auto return. I will try the password fix. That sounds easiest and most transparent. Thx :D
