Nap BlownApart
I have my osCommerce setup on a shared SSL server, and am using cookies. I have no problems with customers logging onto my site using either Firefox 1.5.0.6 or Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106. However, when a customer tries to login using Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180 (WinXP SP2), osCommerce directs them to the 'Your browser doesn't support cookies' page and tells them that they don't have cookies enabled. I have checked the cookie settings, and they are fine. Does anyone know what the cause of this problem is, and have a solution? I believe that it has something to do with my osCommerce not having a privacy policy ( /w3c/p3p.xml), combined perhaps with the fact that I have a shared SSL (which makes my content look like it's from a 3rd party). Can someone please assist, as I have an advertising initiative coming up real soon. Cheers, Nap.

Nap BlownApart
Jasonabc, I've done as you suggested, and it works. Thanks. But, is it necessary to do it that way? By not using cookies, will that mean a lower level of service to the customer? Ie. shopping cart doesn't keep track of things, etc? Or does it mean that the info that would be kept in the cookie is stored on the server instead? Is there a link available where I can read the pro's and con's? Would setting up a Privacy Policy fix the problem as well? Cheers, Nap
jasonabc
OSC uses sessions to keep track of user's activity, the contents of their cart etc etc. Some people have cookies disabled in their browsers so sessions is a much better way to track users anyway. A Privacy Policy (or lack of one) has nothing to do with this issue. Nap BlownApart
Jasonabc, Thanks again. Everything is working fine (including on the XP version of IE) after I did as you suggested. But I'm still puzzled as to why the XP version of IE didn't work even though I had enabled cookies on it? Why was it rejecting the osCommerce cookie, but allowing cookies from various forums I participate in? Cheers, Nap

A Privacy Policy (or lack of one) has nothing to do with this issue. Actually the lack of a P3P Privacy Policy has a lot to do with sessions (cookies). IE's default privacy preferneces will automatically block cookies (session cookies included) if valid a P3P Privacy Policy is not installed. I'd suggest P3PWiz which is by far the easiest to use. It also includes an automated installation. Cheers Brad
