Updating Site - Toy Store

ToyStore

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Please take a look at http://www.funtasticaltoys.com/index.php

Let me know what you think, not all the product pictures are working, and the order of the way the products are listed will change (just a quick import from my other site to test features). I am around 75% complete, just finished the MVS install, so on to the next items..

I was trying to make the oSc install look as close to my main site - http://www.funtasticaltoys.com as possible.

Let me know on loading times, I have not started testing them yet.

I am thinking about image magic??

If you click on Hobby Store it goes to my vendors site that I get for free from them, sadly they only drop ship if I use their site... So that is not oSc..

Let me have it :)

I made some updates to my side category menu, want your ideas on it. I would like to have this called by the program, rather than using gif images. But I have not seen any contribs that do this well, so it will take me some time to learn enough to make it happen. (I think I can do it, just need to work on it some more)

So does it currently slow down my loading times too much?? Image Magic is installed. Worked all the install bugs out on MVS - due to some many contribs now being in this thing.

Overall please comment? (my almost two year history is only showing 5% of my traffic being from dialup customers)

Ignore - Privacy, About Us, Conditions, Etc; once I get closer I will copy and paste these in from my old site.

Also, I plan to use a custom mainpage (where you see test now) instead of using featured products, new products, etc. I would like to have a toy of the month, along with a few other things.

I am thinking about using the wishlist in the header, or maybe on the left side, still deciding. I will also change the code, to where the cart header show the total along with the current items in cart.

Look forward to your feedback.

Hey John I like the use of Nifty Corners and have been trying to get this working myself. As far as you load times I really did not notice it as I'm on DSL. Menus look great and everything else functions.

Noticed you have several other different calls to other css files. Do these do anything with Nifty?

Hi. Just checking out sites and thought that the best way to do that would be to constructively critisize other sites. Makes me think about what is wrong with mine.

Anyway, here goes.............

1. Your header background should be the same as the index background to give it some continuity.

2. Seems you have no pictures for your new products. Might be a good idea if you had pictures or a "No_Pic_Available.gif". The pics that you do have are FANTASTIC though. Great job!

3. I would make my Catagories pages text a little bigger.

I get the impression that this store is not live yet as most of the categories don't have any products in them, am I right?

About the load times, I am on dial up and found that the load time was no problem. Although I have an excellerator, I am not sure that it makes too much of a difference with the load time.

Anyway, I think the site has GREAT potential. Keep up the great work.

Kelvin

PS. Image magic is a good idea. ;)

Thanks Kelvin!

Since this store is drastically updated from my last, the pictures are missing from the generic database import that I did. So once I get a bit closer to going live I will correct that.

I do have Image Magic installed, but I have not played with it much.

I will play around with the header background, not crazy about the current..

Thank you for the comments!
