midge
Hi Team, I'm completely new to OS Commerce. I am having a problem with my Yahoo web hosting server. It seems that the Yahoo Hosting will not allow file starting with (.) so therefore I can not upload my .htaccess files. Is there a way I can get around this, does OS Commerce need them? Thanks in advance Dave

warleb
Hi, I have the same problem, and I'm new too to OsCommerce. Can't upload .htaccess. What can I do ? Thanks. Have you tried to rename the file, upload it and then rename it to .htaccess once it's on the server. Just a thought! I don't bother doing backups. I love the thrill of screwing it all up! Yahoo does not allow .htaccess files. http://help.yahoo.com/us/webhosting/glossa...lossary-08.html .htaccess (Hypertext Access) The name .htaccess refers to the main configuration file for Apache, a popular open-source HTTP server. The .htaccess file can be used to create custom error pages and web page redirects, set up password protection, enable SSI, and more. Yahoo! does not currently allow you to upload .htaccess files to your account. midge
Just an update, I hear you and I will go down the custom error route when I get to it. I managed to install OsCommerce by deleting the files that start with a period, there were 6 in total. Installation went seemlessly after that until I tried to enter the site from my browser. Now all I get is "Unable to connect to database server!" The connection to the data base was fine during install as the installation package populated my database with 46 tables. Problems still, ho-hum. Any ideas from you guys and gals would be great.

midge
All sorted guys, Thanks for the help!! It was both the admin/includes/configur.php and the catalog/includes/configure.php files. For some reason they were not written to during install. I had the permissions set for these files to 777 so I don't know what has happened. I did another install and all was fine.
