alwebt
Does osCommerce have a SMS plugin? Basically as part of my new virtual site ( it will only sell downloadable products for both PC and Mobile phones ). I would like to be able to send files or messages to a person's mobile phone from the osCommerce site. What tools do I require to achieve this? Any hints, tips, suggetions welcome. THanks
Guest
I did this just last night. It was really easy using SMS-You with the clickatell account. I have new orders sent to my mobile phone which arrive about 3 seconds after order confirmation. I used this mod as opposed to Order Notification by SMS V1 (I think that's the name) because my mobile carrier does not accept [email protected] as a legitimate way of sending free SMSs using an email to SMS messages. So I have to pay a small sum. It also has SMS-Me as a variation which sends information to the customer. Did not try this. My only problem is that I get a notification by email saying my SMSs were not delivered properly when in fact they were and am now hunting to see if anyone else has had the same problem. Check out www.clickatell.com for the SMS gateway - my SMS messages to Brazil cost me about 2 US cents each. As I say it was a simple install. Silverado05
If you are using what they call a smart phone or a phone that can accept emails you can set your smart phone or mobile phone to accept emails. For example. If you receive extra order emails from something like [email protected] then just set your phone to also accept emails from [email protected]. This way you get the entire email and order info as if you were getting it off your computer. Best of all its FREE. I did this on my T-Mobile Dash Smart phone and it works great. Search the forum and contributions before posting. If that doesn't work, keep looking, then post. The forum is for seeking help and advice NOT for someone to do your work for you. Try to do something on your on, if you are going to run a shop then learn how it works.

Hope that all customers in general be able to enjoy this service of receiving notification when there's new product thus i think sms would be more general instead of email . Not all customers have smart phone. Any clues ?
Silverado05
Well true not all customers have smart phones but these contributions only alert the SHOP OWNER and not the customer. Besides a lot of the new phones for the past year are WAP enabled and can accept emails. Emails are also a lot easier to set up and it's free. As always stated above not all carriers go by the [email protected] so you can't alway send a text via email format to send a text. Plus to use these two contributions above you have to use a text gateway which cost you and the end user money. Search the forum and contributions before posting. If that doesn't work, keep looking, then post. The forum is for seeking help and advice NOT for someone to do your work for you.
