Guest

Recommended Posts

Hello, I beleave i have been "ripped off". I have visited ebay recently, and saw this as a bonus nice script, and a few ebooks to start my self off a store. Get some more on from my wholesaler sorted business.

Here is my item i bid for

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=170012779953

Although if you look at the admin pannels:

What i purchased:

ebayql9.th.jpg

osCommerce:

oscommercewe9.th.jpg

BUT IT GET WORSE!!

This product (same one i purchase) but since i was sold it on ebay, the adult ebooks got taken away. So here is the product for sale:

http://www.dotcomallsorts.com/downloads.php?products_id=126

THEY EVEN USE THE SAME MYSQL DATABASSE STRUCTURE

Which is nice, because ive got the eBooks on osCommerce now :)

:) Sure.

Ive deccided to report this to PayPal claims. This is what i have wrote. It has be to a certain ammount of letters. Thats why its so crammed. Sorry:

The product I have received is an EXACT copy of osCommerce. I have taken a screenshot of both account.php file.

http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/2401/accountphpzl1.jpg

This shows the exact account.php file from each .zip I have just downloaded. So it shows i have been "ripped off" as osCommerce is free, comes with support, mods and skins. The product i purchased comes with none of these and cost over ?10. OsCommerce website says that their copyright must remain on the admincp, although can be removed on the main files. On this script the copyright has been removed from everywhere (if I run a site its illegal) Therefore against their TOS. The mysql database structure is exactly the same also. Here is also some screen shots of the admincp, showing similarities:

OsCommerce: ?0.00

http://img117.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oscommercewe9.jpg

eBay Purchase: ?0.00

http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/9847/ebayql9.th.jpg

Overview:

- Same php files.

- Same mysql database.

- Against osCommerce Copyright.

----------------------

--quote--

The domain name, www.aceebooks.com, is currently registered at www.fizzingdomains.com. There are no domain transfer fees to pay on this website. The domain is registered up until July 2007. After that, it costs just $9.99 per year, which is around ?5.40.

--quote--

The domain sold, was 2days old on bid start date. Therefore which was not mentioned in the sale is that their are charges for dns transfer away from the sellers hosting. Also any actual transfers to an alternate domain supplier can not be undertaken for 60 days minimum also not mentioned in sale.

Overview:

- Charges for dns transfer

- Unable to transfer domain, as its restricted for 60 days.

----------------------

Every ebook included in the sale, can not be sold, as every product includes a file which advertises my competitors.(5 links to competitors in file).

Total Overview

- Script Illegal. Rip off

- Domain Restricted

- Products unsellable

Leave it to Wade to act or speak before reading throughly. We've known him to do that when he is installing Contributions.... :D

Entertainment-CMS.com:

Sorry pal, but you were had and their is nothing Pay-Pal or eBay is going to be able to do for you but maybe stop them for the next guy. This is a buyer beware type instance. Tp be honest with you I think it's your fault for not reading the lsiting throughly. I don't see where this guy did wrong after reading my self. It's not a stock OSC installation. and no where does he claim to be selling an OSC installation. You bought a service, a service in which this site was set up and themed already for you. It's actually no different then paying templates for OSC, except you got an entire store. You actually got a good deal if you knew anything about what you're getting into. It also doesn't matter where domain name, is registered or who registered it. Those can be moved and easy after the 60 days and thats typical for new sites. Also GoDaddy domain names registered is $1.99 and sometimes less so I don't see what you're complaining about.

Like I said, maybe you should have researched what you were getting into first before you actually start complaining with what you got and looking foolish. This just sounds like a basic case of not knowing what you were getting into.

Search the forum and contributions before posting. If that doesn't work, keep looking, then post. The forum is for seeking help and advice NOT for someone to do your work for you. Try to do something on your on, if you are going to run a shop then learn how it works.

Well then you need to quit telling lies about me of what I didn't do behind my back.

1. I thought you said move on?

2. I didn't do anything behind your back, I think I made it very obvious.

3. Sorry you cant take a JOKE!!!

4. I can pull up numerous threads I have helped you in where you did not read the install directions completely and had problems from it. I can tell you one right off the top of my head is the SMF forum interegration and I know there is more.

5. Do you want to me keep going and post those and embarass you, or do you want to just drop it and "Move On" as you kindly described?

  • 1 month later...

i dont really see how this is a rip off.

you get a store installed onto a server (saves you about 20 mins) you get the layout and appearance changed so you have a good looking site (saved you between 20 mins and 20 hours dependant on what was changed and how much is totally customised)

entire database preloaded with items and pics(lots of hours)

what is the problem there?

because its based on osc?

are you telling me that your time is worth so little per hour you could have done it yourself for that price?

to be honest i would buy a site from dotcomallsorts if it meant saving me an hour of my time at a cost of ?30 or ?40

depends what your times worth i guess.

I am reading through this topic and amazed that noone has mentioned the obvious things on this:

1. Since you seen the screenshots in advance and assumed it was what you call an oscommerce "rip-off", why would you purchase it?

2. There are quite a few "oscommerce rip-off" programs which used oscommerce as their basis. However since oscommerce is free and released under the GNU public copyright license, this in short allows anyone to customize oscommerce out heavily and then resell it under a different name if they choose to but ONLY if coding is modified on all pages of the oscommerce system.

There is a few other popular carts which used oscommerce as the starting point. I don't recall which major one off the top of my head, but it was either X-Cart or Sun Cart if I recall correctly.

Also considering the price involved here, and that you already had an idea it was not everything it was cracked up to be, I think reporting it to paypal as a "rip-off" is bit overboard, even though I have not seen the cart itself in action...from the screen shots you have shown...it IS different enough to allow them to rename it as they choose.

I welcome any additional feedback.

Sincerely,

Bruce
