Most contributions support MS2 and not MS1, so if you want to add any new contributions you'd better upgrade. If you're not having problems with your store and you don't want to make changes then it may not be worth it. 2. Yes, it's different. There's a SQL update script in the extras folder of the distribution that will make the database changes for you. Also, if your copy of MS1 has been modified, such as by adding contributions, you'll need to make those changes over again. Unless they were things that were included in the default MS2, of course.
