Sorcerer2066
First a big thanks to everyone who helped this newbie get her act together. And to those who said they would test for me once she was completely done - she's done. My Webpage for Yacht Crew The site is not simply an ecommerce site. It is to give info to people who want to crew and hopefully draw in advertisers too. Also thanks to whoever it was who noticed that i hadn't protected my admin and went in and changed all my prices. I could have killed you but it was a valuable lesson. (B******D  ) Jen
abra123cadabra
Hi Jen, some of the things that were not working the first time I had a look are working now (more or less). 1. If I select to look for a crew I get the list of positions and can pick ie. captain. The new page has a dropdown list with the positions on top but it doesn't work (ie. select deckhands and nothing happens). 2. When hovering over a navigation link in the left columns, the link colour changes to light blue and starts blinking. Both don't make reading easier and the blinking is quite annoying. Just realised all your links start blinking like this. 3. You are selling banner space on your site which is fine but the product descriptions start with a lecture on when one shouldn't advertise (ie. anything not yachting related) which is not good selling at all. Information missing for these products is where the ads would appear on your site. 4. As this part of your site is new, I would loose the "product added..." bit so that it's not too apparent that they have just been added recently. This contradicts your statement of 20000 (in another place you mention 25000) unique visitors per month. Just use one figure BTW. 5. The crew houses list seems pretty useless to me, especially the USA section. There is no info about where the accommodation is. A bit more info would certainly make the list more valuable. 6. Link in Navigation in left column "Want to worke with us" - nice spelling. Well, there is a lot of information to be read. The shop seems to work properly. Good luck with it! abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome. Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong. When hovering over a navigation link in the left columns, the link colour changes to light blue and starts blinking. Didn't know they blinked! I hope they have stopped. They don't in my browser but then I never noticed them blinking before. Completely agree will work on it now As this part of your site is new, I would loose the "product added..." bit so that it's not too apparent that they have just been added recently. My stats vary most months it's around 20 thou others it's more. The crew houses list seems pretty useless to me, especially the USA section. There is no info about where the accommodation is. A bit more info would certainly make the list more valuable. I am of the mind that if they want the full info they must buy the book! Although I guess I should say that. Also if you own a crew house and want to be listed, you are not likely to pay for it if all the info is there already! Hmm Thanks so much for your time and energy. abra123cadabra
Fair enough about the crew houses. Maybe find something in the middle. Don't give the links and phone numbers but the names and city? About the blinking links: I'm using Firefox 1.5 on WinXP. Your book seems to be a very valuable thing to have. I know you have a link to the website for the book but maybe you can have a chapter list in the product description? The about us page is mainly about the book but your name is only mentioned in the quotation. I would make it more personal as to why you run this site etc. and not focus on the book as this is not the main focus on your site any more. abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product.
