Guest
I just noticed this on my shop's home page: http://obviate.us/catalog/index.php In the "categories" box on the left, the categories listed are still the sample ones that were used in the demo verion of my osCommerce site. they are only appearing on the home page - on all my other pages, the categories show up correctly. I though this was supposed to change automatically? How can I fix this?
choosealogin
Do you have the cache enabled? (admin page>>configuration>>cache) Check and see. If it is turned on, try turning it off then clear your browser cache, cookies, etc...revisit your store and see if it's still doing that. If so, and you want to use the caching, then read this thread...it explains how to set it up on a shared server. http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/lofiversion/i...hp/t131040.html Long thread, but worth reading. choosealogin
Cool, glad it worked. Caching can be good for speed/efficiency ...so when you have big database queries that run over and over again, but they don't change very often (like your categories), then the cache stores the query result (i.e. your list of categories) until it is changed, and just reads the cached data when it needs to...instead of working your db to death. On a small store with few categories, it's not much of a concern. On a store with thousands of products and hundreds of categories, it can be a lifesaver.
