2 column v 3 column

Debating whether to go with 2 columns rather than 3 columns.

 

What do you think are the pros and cons of both?

One of the advantages of the 3 column layout as I see it is the listed items in the shopping cart. I imagine a shopping cart items in header would work best with 2 columns.

 

I also imagine that 3 columns would work best with a shop that takes up the whole screen and a 2 column would work best with a fixed width site.

 

Any other pros/cons?

One of my customers lives in a town with older people... and they tend to use 800x600 resolution. In my scenario, they could not see the third column because of the image widths we have. Plus, most of those customers do not know how to use the bottom scroll bar. :P
