snoope
Hi Guys, I need to add some new products to my store, but i just cannot get the text looking right as i have hardly no experience in html editing. I hope if there is a way i can just write text and it would display correctly on my store. I can't remember how i did it, but once i found this page, i think it was in the control panel or in the admin panel and on this page i could use a text editor and write my product description and then it would automatically turn it into html and then i could save it. Now everywhere i look i cannot find this, is there any other way that could make my life easier and allow me to do this without html knowledge? Any help much appreciated Many thanks
choosealogin
You might look at w3schools.com...lots of good free information there. It makes a good reference. I think you're thinking of a WYSIWYG (what you see is what...) editor. There are a few contributions here.... http://www.oscommerce.com/community?contri...mp;category=all Also, you can use something like ( :x ) Front Page or Dreamweaver, or other html editors(maybe some free ones I'm sure) ...A lot of those have wysiwyg. So you can get it the way you want it and then copy/paste the html...just only copy/ paste the stuff that's inbetween the <body> tags. Do look at w3, though. You can find the basics there...and that's really all that's needed. :)

snoope
Hi there, Infact i have just been reading about installing these html editors and i have read that some of them can screw up your admin page and make all the text and fonts go strange. And how do i even install one of these editors, is there any html editors that i can use that are free stand alone products that you install to a folder on your computer and then you just type away exactly what you want and then it turns it automatically into html and then you just cut and paste that into your product description page under admin and then save? That's what i am looking for, so is there anything like that? Any help much appreicated Many thanks
choosealogin
I don't have a recommendation offhand. But...you might just start w/ google. There should be a few good free ones here... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=w...G=Google+Search And there are a few here http://webdesign.about.com/od/htmleditors/..._frehtedwin.htm This one is free and looks pretty good http://www.nvu.com/index.php
snoope
Hi choosealogin, Thanks for the links, i was doing some browsing as well and found a program called pagebreeze and i installed it and it works like a charm. I have now updated my store with some new products. The only problem i have now is that my text seems to drop a line, i will expalin what i mean. I have been cutting and pasting some product descriptions that i wrote out earlier in some text document, now that i have pasted it into this html editor, it pastes it but each new line has dropped one line down so the text looks like this wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww when i click my mouse pointer on the start of one of the line of text and press the backspace button to go up one line, instead of going up one line it goes back to the end of the line above, and so it looks wrong. I hope you understand what i mean So how can i fix this, is this something to do with the html editors page settings, or my admin product descriptions page settings, or something to do with the html coding? I really hope there is a easy way to fix this Thanks in advance
♥Monika in Germany
I think that is if you use enter to start a new line ... have you tried using a soft break, shift+enter instead? :-) Monika addicted to writing code ... can't get enough of databases either, LOL! my toolbox: Textpad - Compare and Merge - phpMyAdmin - WS_FTP - Photoshop - How to search the forum Interactive Media Award July 2007 ~ category E-Commerce my advice on the forum is for free, PMs where you send me work are considered consultation which I charge for ... snoope
Hi guys, One other problem i am having now is that some text i type into my html editor isn't displaying right, the text is displaying as one line and one font size and the other line is another font size. I have highlighted all font on the page and tried changing the font to make all text one font but when i save it and preview it on my store it is still displaying each line as a differnet font size. What should i do to fix this and make all text, one font size? Any help much appreciated Many thanks
♥Monika in Germany
sorry no help here, I used the fckeditor contrib and it's working fine contrib wise. Only thing that could be that you are using fonts that are not supported? :-) Monika addicted to writing code ... can't get enough of databases either, LOL! my toolbox: Textpad - Compare and Merge - phpMyAdmin - WS_FTP - Photoshop - How to search the forum Interactive Media Award July 2007 ~ category E-Commerce my advice on the forum is for free, PMs where you send me work are considered consultation which I charge for ... snoope
Hi Monika So your using fckeditor, i went to www.fckeditor.net to download their software and i found no exe file, only zip and gzip, so i downloaded latest version in zip and unzipped the file hoping to get a exe to install but all i get is a bunch of files, how exactly does this work? The only reason i want to try this program is because perhaps it will help on the font side, as you said you don't get any problems and that fckeditor works in oscommerce. Also what does contrib mean? If you could please help Many thanks

I use the second from the top by nicko. There is no exe, fckeditor is a fileset for the web just like osCommerce. snoope
Hi Monika, Sorry to bother you again with questions, Once you install fckeditor, then in order to use it do you login to your admin section of your store. The reason i ask is because i think there already is a html editor installed in my admin. As a few weeks ago i stumbled upon an editor while i was browsing the contents of my admin, but i just can't remember where i saw it. Do you know where about html editors are installed by default in the admin section?
♥Monika in Germany
osCommerce doesn't install a html contribution by default. You might have added one with a contribution. I have changed in many stores from that one (assuming we talk about the same) as fckeditor is very portable once added to your admin, and only one line needs to be changed if you want to add it to other pages (like infopages in admin, if you have such a contrib). So yes, you access it via admin, but not by clicking something ... you just edit a product and it automatically shows for the description text if added. I proceeded then instead to open up the admin and see what happened. First in the text field to edit a product a copy of my server company's home page came up! I quickly moved the fckeditor folder into the proper subfolder and that went away but now there is nothing in the text fields and I cannot edit or write in there as well now. Help, please. Getting a tad frustrated. THank You in advance! I love this forum. Lisa
snoope
Hi Monika On that link you gave me, i donwloaded the instlation instructions and then i opened it and it said to download fckeditor version 2.1.1 from fckeditor.net I went to fckeditor.net and found that there latest version is 2.31, is it best to get that? Would i use the same line of code from the instlation instructions even though i use the latest version 2.31? Also you mentioned that it is just one line of code you need to add to my store, but in the installation instructions it shows a lot of code that you need to add? I am a total newb and really don't understand any of this, i really don't want to mess around with codes and mess up my store. Is there any chance you could show me step by step on what to do? I only really know how to install things via exe's i am not that advance in computers. Should i get my webpage designer to integrate this into my store? but i am trying to avoid paying a fee for this, so it would be easier to learn to do it myself. Any help much appreciated Many many thanks
