Specials Box w/ Truncated Description

I added a product description to my Specials Box by adding 'pd.products_description' into my boxes/specials.php page. It works nicely, except the descriptions are too long. I am looking to shorten them with a 'more...' link or something similar after the partial description.

Does anyone know how to do this? FYI I'm also using the 'Separate Pricing Per Customer' contribution, so my specials.php page is not original.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
