Sorcerer2066
Okay. Sweat, blood, tears, all of you know what it's about I'm sure. My new site needs to go live very very soon (48 hours or so) and I need some help. 1. I would value your general comments anyway on look and feel of site. (I want it to make enough money so I can afford one them too!) There will be more products coming and more info etc. http://www.yachtcrew-cv.com/catalog/index.php 2. The site has been built on top of an existing site which has been running 'in front' of the new oscommerce. Now that I am ready to go live I need to make the oscommerce index page the real 'home page' This is what I mean. Current home page = http://www.yachtcrew-cv.com/ Current oscommerce entrance page is http://www.yachtcrew-cv.com/catalog/index.php I want to move this up one level so this new page becomes my home page but am really scared because of all the drama and energy that has gone into building the site and I really really don't want to stitch things up. :o ! So if anyone has, in laymans terms for the simpleminded (me), a way to do this without destroying things etc I would be so grateful. 3. I have secure and non secure items on the site and am not sure how to get around this. The reason I have done this is because I keep exceeding my monthly bandwidth (15 gig!!!!!) so I thought that if images came from a different site this would help keep costs down but I didn't count on the secure cert being an issue. Thanks for your help and time. Jen

Thanks for your help and time. Jen Jen, How about using redirects? You do not state what your web server is, but in Apache, you can use .htaccess to specify when a person enters the web address http://www.yachtcrew-cv.com/, the server will automatically redirect them to http://www.yachtcrew-cv.com/catalog/index.php. It gives the added bonus of quickly commenting out the redirect so it goes to the old home page which you can have set up for when the site is "down for maintenance". Check out the following link for a quick tutorial and look at the section on redirection: www.freewebmasterhelp.com/tutorials/htaccess/2 Remember that this is specific to Apache Web servers. Check with your web host if you are not sure. Best of luck, PJ
