Adzzzz
Can someone please advise me if it is possible to setup osc on Fasthosts shared SSL? I have spent the last 3 days searching this forum for the answer, but have found no definitive answer! So far i understand that there is a patch to allow osc to run with registar_globals switched off, will this alone solve all my problems or are there other problems that need to be worked around? Are there any disadvantages of running osc with registar_globals switched off? I would like to be sure before i spend the ?45 on the shared SSL! Any advice would be much appriciated. Thanks in advance.
♥Vger
Don't spend the ?45 on the shared ssl - it won't work with osCommerce - and that's definitive! You also don't have the option to upgrade to a full ssl cert if you wanted to at some point in the future. Vger
Adzzzz
How come there are people on this forum saying that it is possible then? One guy apparently has a store running on fasthosts servers without any problems.. "We have just completed http://www.h2olifestyle.com and its all on fasthosts servers.. every last bit. Works fine." I have also found this post: "Vger is spreading lies,http://www.streamline.net/kb_results.php?k...tion=&ssection=is a guide that will help you setup oscommerce on streamlinenet/fasthosts.he's in other topics saying the same things I bet he is a hosting company himself and is spreading lies to get your cusom!" So whats the deal? I would like to stay with fasthosts if possible. Not having a full SSL cert is not a problem for me.

I have OSC running fine. you need to upload OSC to both the SSL and normal hosting space. check that /includes/configure.php and /admin/includes/configure.php are the same on both installs and both refer to your hosting and DB setup download the register global patch from OSC site which VGER has kindly added and upload the changes you should be then rockin n rolling with full SSL hope that helps. Adzzzz
Thanks for your response i was hoping it would work, but how come Vger is saying that it doesent if he wrote the patch? Is there any issues with having register_globals turned off? Thanks.
♥Vger
"We have just completed http://www.h2olifestyle.com and its all on fasthosts servers.. every last bit. Works fine." Yes, but the site does not use ssl at all. I have never said that there is a problem hosting osCommerce on Fasthosts without ssl, only when you try to use their shared ssl. It's also a fact that they don't allow you to buy a full ssl, because that would mean your website having its own dedicated ip address which they won't supply. If Nick Pollard would post his website URL I'd be very interested to take a look at it and see an osCommerce website hosted by Fasthosts which works with their shared ssl. I've never known of anyone who can keep a session id going between the two servers. Yes, like many others on this forum, I do provide hosting, but I do not lie to people. I speak from experience, but am happy to be proven wrong. Vger
♥Vger
I checked out the post you found that said "Vger is telling lies" etc. It's interesting that the person who made that post registered on the same day as they made it, made three others on the same day, saying the same thing, in different threads. That's a total of 4 posts, all made on the same day, none before that, none since, and no url to their website posted. Wonder who they work for?
