trybicki
you can use any old FTP client. connect to your site with this ftp client, browse your files, and right click on the file(s) that you want to set permissions on (CHMOD on) a sub-menu should pop up with CHMOD or UNIX commands - look there

Otherwise you need a special ftp client to change permissions on files or folders. :D
♥Vger
You won't have that problem if you download the file via FTP and edit it in a plain text editor like Notepad or better still Text Pad or Crimson Editor. Take a backup before you edit, edit the file and upload again. Any problems upload the backup you took and start again.
