madcrazygirl
Hi all, store been up for about a month now and been trying my best as an oscommerce newbie  Any comments from new eyes would be much appreciated. Many thanks My Site Notes: been trying very hard with various thumbnail contributions but keep failing to get them working so still on list to do - i currently have imagemagic installed but switched off because the pics all disappear if I turn it on! cannot see where to remove the request since text? only just realised that sessions are lost if customers return to my landing pages outside of oscommerce - oops need workaround? buttons have been on my list of things to do.... -------------------- Link Edit to point to osCommerce store Andrew
madcrazygirl
Please note the link I posted has been edited by the moderator so you are not now arriving at the same landing page as my customers! :( If you click 'home' on the breadcrumb at the top then you will be starting at the right place to offer me customer experience feedback I wished for...... thank you, thank you

Andrew Yuen
Please DON'T BUMP your post. It is against forum rules. As for your store, your header needs loads of work (does not relate to what you are selling in any way). It looks funny on an 1152 X 864 pixel screen. Your left header is cut off and to the right is a brown background with the search field. I recommend taking the search field out of your header. The search button (as well as all other buttons) does not match the rest of your site. I would get rid of ?request since? in your footer. I would also get rid of all the ?->? arrows in your categories box. Andrew Yuen osCommerce, Community Team
madcrazygirl
:'( Sorry what is BUMP? Regarding your comments agree with all of them, just that my newbie brain has not worked out how to sort yet.....
abra123cadabra
Bumping is when you bring your thread up to the top without adding any further information. Had a look around your shop yesterday but didn't have the time to comment as I was invited for dinner. You already have a list of things to do like the buttons which really need to be changed. First of all, the pictures are "inviting" but they take up too much bandwidth to download. I'm using imagemagic which was easy to install and works fine. You might as well try a thumbnail on the fly contribution. Although you have a live chat and the contact us form, I couldn't find any business address or phone number. I think it is really important to have this in a prominent place. Customers need to be able to decide if a shop is for real or just going to take your money and run. The FAQ link on the contact us page is not working, there is a \ too much. The option to design your own shoes is a good idea but you should put pictures of the different options in addition to the text so that I can imagine what this type of leather looks like or the heel. I have to agree about the header. Maybe you can come up with something more connected to dancing? abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome. Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong. Had a look around your shop yesterday but didn't have the time to comment as I was invited for dinner. abra Thanks abra. I have installed Image Magic but have it switched off because the pictures just show a broken image when I switch it on? Have searched the threads exhaustively and temporarily given up. :( Re contact us we do not have a store and are a web business only so hence why have avoided this. FAQ link - could not work out why not working but now fixed ty. Custom shoes - I have a link 'see custom colours'? What do you mean please? best wishes and ty
abra123cadabra
ok, missed the custom colours because the link does not look like a link. What I meant was that I haven't got a clue what the different heels look like or the leather types and some pictures with the textures etc. would help me to decide which I like. Same goes for the buckles. As for the address, even if you are a web business, you need to have a business address and a phone number. How is a customer supposed to tell if you are what you say you are? I need to be able to look up an address, x-check on the internet etc. before I am happy to give you my money. abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. You don't need a thumbnail contrib, you just need photo imaging software that will adjust the size of your image. 350px wide is a good size that will speed up your dowload time. It should also be one that keeps your image porporational when adjusting the size. I have an older program called MGI Photo Suit 4 that is great for just that. I right click my image open with MGI and choose adjust resize and save. Then upload to the site. Your site took soooo long to load that I really did not have much time to look around. No, I do not have dial up. I am on high speed cable.
madcrazygirl
Thank you usernamenone. I agree the site is slow on dial up but not generally on anything faster? There were site speed problems the day you looked and I was complaining to my hosting company all day  Regarding your comments on manually resizing my pics, only trouble is I have hundreds :( so think I will have another go at getting Image Magic to work again first when I have some time (as it is already installed)
