david05
Hello there, I am using osCommerce for a software download site and need to provide a secure download facility for the software. Can osCommerce secure the folder that the setup .exe's are stored in. i.e. if a user happens to know the direct url to my 'secret' folder containing the setup files, what is to stop them from just downloading them direct without paying for them! I am used to using aMember (great product, even better support) for subscription based access to content, which 'locks' folders on your server so that they cannot be accessed directly (even if you know the URL) without buying a subscription. This is great and works really well. I need something similar but for purchases and not for subscriptions. Has anyone else created a download site that needed to protect the folder the files are stored in? Best wishes, David
brianstorm
there is at least one download controller contribution.... i think that the builtin one uses a temproary file with a random name so it can't be downloaded except with the full path (or a fair bit of work) although best check it your self as its been a while since i used it.... the mod that i used definitely had more control than the basic oscommerce module.... with ten thousand dollars we'll all be millionaires
david05
Well I have now password protected the catalog/downloads folder from my domain admin CP so that no one can access the folder directly. BUT the downloads facility in OSC still works, so that users can download files by clicking on the link in their account page. I did not think this would work but am happy it does as it means the digital downloads I have for sale cannot be just simply downloaded if someone knows the URL to the folder. David
