Redirect to an error if a page not exists

In general oscommerce store if we type a page that is not in the catalog directory the index page opens.I want to show an error page for that.For that i have tried so many contributions but without solutions.Anyone can tell me in which page this redirection function is defined.an if possible let me know how i can change it to some other php page.Its very urgent.Plz help me.I am developing the site www.viibs.com.Plz give feedback.

Error pages are handled by the webserver, not by the code. Your webserver may be configured to simply redirect to the site root if there is a 404 error.

 

Your host may offer the ability to create custom error pages in their control panel. If they do not, contact them to see what options they offer.
