How to make catalog files appear as subdirectories

I'm optimizing my site for SEO and someone suggested that I make all my keyword optimized pages into directories:

i.e

mysite.com/optimized-page/

instead of

mysite.com/optimized-page.php

Since OSC has tons of includes on each page that would need to be hacked, I'm wondering if there's an easy way to make it appear like it is a directory to the search engines without actually making it a separate directory on my site and renaming the files as index.php. All the includes, functions, and classes assume that all files are in the base catalog directory...

I don't want to do it globally (i.e. product_info.php, reviews.php...), I only want to do it with a handfull of keyword optimized pages I've created that are not tieds as deeply into the guts of OSC.

Thanks to anyone with ideas!
