UPS Tracking Number

I am new to UPS and there is urgent requirement that UPS shipping module has to be integrated into the application. The process went on smoothly with the UPS XML Rates and Services, Time-in-Transit tools. But I am stuck with the Tracking module.

 

 

What is this Tracking Number, how to fetch it through the application and then finally integrate the Tracking Application based on Tracking number.

 

 

Can somebody help me on this. It is very urgent requirement.

Install the package tracking contribution. I'm not sure if that is the name but searching for that or ups tracking should make it easy to find.

Is that Tracking Number mailed to the customer.

No the tracking number is not mailed to the customer.

The customer would receive the package before receiving the mailed tracking number!

 

The sender gets the tracking number. The customer calls sender for the tracking number. Some websites have it intergrated so that the customer can log back in and get all that info.

 

I don't know how it works with osC, I'm new to it as I just downloaded it the other day.

 

IMHO, I would ship FedEx. I had bad experiences with UPS (well 40% vs. 60%), but FedEx always found me and my packages arrived undamaged. :thumbsup:

usually with the default osc you place the tracking number with the order comments and then when you update the order from the osc admin an email is sent to the customer with all details. There are modules which enhance this, perhaps adding a dedicated tracking number field with each order.

 

Now if you know the specifics of the carrier and they provide some automatic mechanism to retrieve the tracking number once you place the shipment you could integrate it with your osc commerce. Still some sort of manual operation is required to verify payment and then proceed with the shipment.

Since this post was written in 2006, do you know whether anyone has created "some automatic mechanism to retrieve the tracking number"? This is exactly what I need to use exactly as you described above, all automated since we have 50+ orders and growing at www.shopdango.com.
