potheekaami
am a new web developer. For a site I am working on, I have downloaded the osCommerce application and have successfully installed it to my site. I have also downloaded the documentation .pdf file to help me guide through the process. I did these all sometime in March 2006 I believe. My problem now is this. I want to modify the catalog page so that it goes along with my site design. But from the documentation pdf file, where the discussion starts at page 29 - Catalog: Boxes, Catalog: Design, Catalog: Email etcetera, I cannot seem to locate the files it is talking about. For example, to Add/Remove Boxes, the help file says on p.29, to edit the includes/column_left.php file. But I could not find that file in the file manager of my website - /home/created/www/www/catalog/. I have found the file includes/column_left.php in my computer's hard disc, but I cannot find other files there (such as /catalog/default.php to add background color). Please tell me what I should do. In case of the files that I do find in the hard disc, should I edit them and upload them in my server? In that case which folder should I upload the files to? What should I do with the files that are not there? And if the files in my hard disc are not the correct files that i should be looking for, then where can I locate the files in my server? I am not familiar with php at all and I am scared. All I know is html and css. Please help me out and I would forever be grateful to you. If my experience here with osCommerce is successful, I intend to use it further. Sincerely, Potheek Aami.
decok
hi Potheek, What i usually do is set up a web server on my own PC and set up a mirror image of my "real" online OSC shop. This means I can usually make changes to files on my local PC and test everything out before I upload them to live web site. This means you will not have to take your site down will you are testing things out. If you are new to PHP I assume you may not have setup a webserver before. I would suggest you download PHPDEV which is easy to install. visit http://www.firepages.com.au/ for more info... Hope it helps

Wetpants
Not being able to find files is not with php to do. It's like asking me to find your car keys :) I think the instructions are just to unzip oscommerce and upload them, the files can't be anywhere else? :) And your keys fell behind the sofa by the way....
