How to do these three things?

I'm looking for any possible contributions that might be able to help me do these following three things. I've tried searching the database but I can't seem to find anything that matches what I want to do.

1) Is there anyway to upload pics from a URL instead of from a local hard drive? It would make my life much easier as a lot of the items I have are generic items that I can find pictures of online.

2) Is there any way for me to do shipping prices to specific items, ie. item a is $5 ship, item b is $3, item c has free ship, etc.

3) Is there any way for me to make quantity discounts automatically appear on the site, so if the user buys 3 of the same thing, it's x% off, etc..?

Thanks a lot for your help!

to steal images is not suggested

the other things are all available ion the contributions already

"The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer -- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer.

to answer your first ?. Just put the url where the image is located(cut and paste in between these 2 symbols ' '. You may have to upload it to Photobucket or another service. Check in the contributions section and you should be able to find what you are looking for. I ended up finding like 30 things by the time I was through lol...

I don't understand. I try pasting the URL where there's a text box and BROWSE button and once I save the product it says IMAGE DOES NOT EXIST.

Also, what are the other contributions called? I just don't know what to look for...

please help!

It says the image does not exist because it can't find an image by that name in your image directory. I did a test product to see what it looked like and put an image on it from my harddrive. The image did not show up because I didn't actually upload it to my image folder. All I did was put a link to where the image would be if I had uploaded it.

So, I'm assuming you have to manually put the pictures in the image folder, or you have to make sure the "link" is pointing to where the image is stored on the net.

So are there no ways so that I can just put the url in the text box and have it uploaded in my image folder? Are there any contributions that can do that? I tried searching but nothing came up, but you guys might know from previously.

I think what you are referring to is a simply FTP task. Do you have your own web space or is it a free web site like:

geocities.com/yoursite.htm

??

If you want to have a successful store you MUST have FTP access. Then you can simply upload your images to the mage folder. Also you need to optimize each image for correct size and color for optimal load times and store speed.

There are some free FTP programs online and at worst mine which is bulletproof ftp was only $15.

Hope this helps!

I do have FTP and my own server. I just want to know how I would upload an image in admin for a product but instead of browsing locally for the picture, I want to get the picture uploaded from another website via a URL. Is that possible?

You should just be able to put the image address ex. http://www.whatever.com/images/image.jpg right into the image on your upload screen... But it takes really long to show up, and if you have moer than say 50 like me then i wouldn't recomend it and just upload them all to your server...

If you have permission to use the image, download it to your PC, then upload it to your server.

If you want to hotlink....well that's not very nice, is it?

Even if the owner allows you do this, you will get problems with a secure connection. If the owner hasn't permitted hotlinking, he could change the image name, breaking your link.

Well, I was thinking, isn't there a way when I post the url of the image, that osCommerce can upload the image from the URL onto my server, just like how imageshack.us is able to do it?

Bottom Line:

That image most likely is NOT optimized for your store.

If you have permission to use it then:

1) Download It To A Folder

2) Optimize The Size And Colors For load Time

3) Upload It To Your Images Directory For Your Store

We have close to 1000 Products and this is the only way to add proper images.

THEY MUST BE OPTIMIZED FOR YOUR STORE!

Thats is the 1st big NO NO for shopping cart success.

Dont be lazy now!

j/k

:)

Anyways, can someone help me find appropriate contribs for my 2) and 3) ques then? I DID try to look for them in contribs but couldn't find anything exactly from the description...

Here they are:

2) Is there any way for me to do shipping prices to specific items, ie. item a is $5 ship, item b is $3, item c has free ship, etc.
