weeman212 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 First off hi to everyone, I would like some feedback on my new shop, we are based in the UK. The site is www.Platinum-Mixtapes.co.uk. Any feedback good or bad would be appreciated and please say if you notice any bugs, because I believe I've ironed them all out. I don't have all the products uploaded so no comments saying my stock choice is a bit small. PS: This store IS LIVE, please don't place a test order Thanks in advance Ryan
Andrew Yuen Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I like the very simple design of your online store. What really caught me though is the fact that I had to click a product to figure out what you were selling. Your design as well as main page gives me no clue as to what the store is selling. I would include some type of description on the main page. This will also help get rid of some of that white space under your two featured products. In addition I would create a better logo that reflects what you are selling. I also noticed on a 1400 X 1050 resolution pages like http://www.platinum-mixtapes.co.uk/shop/login.php which contain infoboxes on the right look wierd. This is cause the header is fixed width and the body is not fixed width. I would consider fixing that issue and also installing a SSL cert. Andrew Yuen osCommerce, Community Team
weeman212 Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 Ok thanks Andy, I'll have to sort out those things then, regarding the white space, that will be filled up when i add more products. I wanted to install a SSL cert but when I tried I was confronted with total confusion and thought that the fact PayPal is secure it would be ok. Could someone point me to some information that could help me set one up please.
weeman212 Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 Ok, Redirect fixed now, column width fixed. Just wondering how important is an SSL cert for my site really?
LENCH Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Sorry to put a dampener on your new venture, but the BPI are cracking down on mixtape retailers across the UK. I think you should know this now seeing as you are just starting out. You may have been aware of other big mixtape sites in the UK, but are now closed. I had a very successful site primarily selling mixtape CD's, but after being made aware of the crackdown, I voluntarily closed it down.. as I was unaware of just how seriously the BPI are taking it. Just have a Google, you will notice no major mixtape websites operating from the UK, for just this very reason. I have now switched into the DVD market, and my site will be redesigned and back up in a few months. Just bear all this in mind, and if you want to talk further, PM me
