acedrian Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Hi. I have just installed OsCommerce through fantastico on my host - bluehost.com. It installed fine, but the problem is the admin page loads without asking for the admin login. Even though during the installation it got to a stage where it said there is one more step, it has to protect the admin page etc. That step is completed no problem, it confirms my login details and it says its completed succsefully. However the admin page will just merrily open without asking for a login. This is most frustrating, no error, and no indication that there was a problem. In case its relevant: I installed OsCommerce on the same site a while ago on a different directory (no probs that time), and the OsCommerce files still reside on that directory (though fantastico doesn't pick up that there is any other installation present). The new installation is on a different directory. I suppose its a good idea to delete those files in any case. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ozcsys Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Look in your hosting control panel and you probably have a link that says password protect directories or web protect. Click on it and setup a password and login for your admin from there. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
acedrian Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 Anyway, I have got around it by setting the admin folder as password protected. But OsCommerce should still make it protected during the installation. I'm not sure if its a problem with the host - as I said it worked fine before without me having to manually protect the folder. Any ideas are welcome.

Guest Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 think he was saying that it should ask you to set the login/password during the setup, rather than having to go back afterwards and do it there. though, the only reason I can think of that it wouldn't be available during the install is bacause it requires the site cp to do it.
ebizwell Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I got the same problem too! Also, I can't found account administration page!
acedrian Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 A default install of osC does not protect the admin that is something that you have to do yourself So it seems, but the first time I installed it it was protected without me having to do anything :-" In any case, the installation procedure gives the impression that it sets up the protection for you automatically... ebizwell, have you copied the php.ini file into the admin directory? It won't be there by default.
