LisaC
Hi there. Before I post I want to say that I have searched the forum for help and tried all the suggestions but nothing has worked so far. I have installed a store and when I view it I am getting this message "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/ljgdesi/public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file." The permissions for this file is set to 644 and I tried the other suggested permissions but nothing makes a difference. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still get the message. Can anyone suggest anyhting for me? Thanks so much http://ljgdesign.com/catalog/

LisaC
in that configure.php you change the permission to 777 I thought we were onlsy supposed to do that for set up. I have done the set up and am now editing the store content but have a warning on the top of the store to change the permission.

Guest
in that configure.php you change the permission to 777 why would you do that? the error is saying the file is already writable! 777 = writable LisaC, are you sure the permissions changed to 644? i often find that when i chmod something via ftp, it doesn't always set. if you have cpanel, you should try to chmod it through cpanel's file manager
jtwilk23
Hi, I am also faced with this same situation "security risk". I am looking at my configure.php files now (both /includes and /admin/includes). How do I set these permissions? I don't see the numbers 777 or 644 anywhere. I guess I don't really know anything about permissions and how to change them, other than they make files readable or writable? Thanks!

However, all of my configs are set to 644 and I still get the same message... hmm.. Ok now, I changed the permissions on includes/config to 444 (no owner write capability) and the error has dissappeared... Is this ok?

Edenlust
I just wanted to add to the topic because I also had this problem. It appeared after I'd changed catalog/includes/configure.php permissions to 644. I tried changing it to 444 (as suggested in the oscommerce.info topic), but when I reset the CHMOD through my FTP, it didn't work. Every time I went back to the file, it had reset itself to 644 - it wouldn't stick. I went to the file manager on my domain's Control Panel and edited permissions there. Problem solved. The oscommerce.info topic says that 644, 444, or 400 are fine. Whatever works for your server's settings.
LisaC
Wow great thanks for the tip about teh file manager...I never even thought of that. I finally discovered it was not accepting my permission change so I emailed my host and they "fixed" it for me. Thanks EVERYONE for the suggestions and help. It's nice to have somewhere to come for help :) HUGS I just wanted to add to the topic because I also had this problem.
