Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration

I am using os on my server and everything works fine. I now want to modify osCommerce locally on my mac using the excellent MAMP. I have installed the database and catalog and get the following error message:

"Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory."

I have looked in .htaccess and the register_globals in on 1 (which I assume means enabled!). I have looked in configuratioin.php and there is no reference to register_globals.

Has anyone had similar problems and managed to relsolve them?

(I should say that everything works fine when I do a complete install on MAMP with the register globals patch. But I clearly don't wan't to knacker my hard work by installing it.)

I just got that message on my install today. I looked at my php.ini file (located at my root) and in the header my host put a message that I need to place this file in anyplace that uses PHP. So I copied the file into the root of my shop and the admin folder and now everything is wokring fine.

Hope this helps.
