inserting a field only visible when adding product

Hi there

 

I have acreated a new column in th eproducts table. This is to input a product reference. I do not want customers to see this but it would be helpful to be able to add it from the add product section rather than going into the table in mysql.

 

Can anyone tell me an easy way to do this?
