bobg7
Crazy question I'm sure, but I was wonder what label numbers you all use for shipping via USPA, UPS and FedEx. Basicly when I ship an package, I login to whatever shipper the customer wants to pay for and create my shipping label on plain paper. FedEx is easy, just fold and insert into a sticky pouch. USPS and UPS I have to cut and clear tape the label to the box. A waste of paper, tape and time. Is there a generic label that is used for shipping? Thanks in advance. cannuck1964
labeling contributions in the contribution section maybe available, generally there are preset printer file formats and many are generic so they work on many different printers and associated software systems. If you do not find one, you would need to find out what format your printer works with and then code you an export of the customer lable details and send this info to the printer in some fashion..... have a look for EDI (electronic document invoicing) in google, this may help.... cheers, Peter M Peter McGrath ----------------------------- See my Profile (click here) for more information and to contact me for professional osCommerce support that includes SEO development, custom development and security implementation
mpiscopo
UPS has the pouches similar to FedEx. However, I use a label printer (provided by UPS, but you can purchase one) and print on sticky labels. UPS will ship you the rolls of labels for the printer at no charge. This is the easiest and quickest way to apply labels. I also have a seperate label printer for USPS, it is part of the Pitney Bowes setup I use for sending through the post office. You may want to consider using only one shipping company. If you use either FedEx or UPS only, and ship a decent weekly volume, you can get a discount from them. You may also want a daily pickup - once again, depending on your volume. I stay away from USPS because their service and tracking features are not as good as UPS/FedEx - besides with my discount from UPS shipping is cheaper through them than USPS. I only use USPS for sending samples to customers.
Chance
You can order UPS pouches for free off their website if you have a UPS account. The same goes for DHL and FedEx. All three companies labels print on standard half page labels (2x 8.5"x5.5" labels per sheet) and can be purchased pretty much anywhere, although you will find great deals online if you buy in volume. You should evaluate and perform a cost comparison between using company specific labels and printing all on 1 generic template- our company saved money by just going generic and stocking one design in volume. My advice comes in two flavors- Pick the one that won't offend you.
