There are many people out there that are claiming that the main thing to a websites success is the way that it is opptimised, and although this is partly true you could go out and put all your time into satisfying what the search engines want and paying no attention to you customers (if that is the type of site that you ave).

I agree that it is important that you need to get people to your site and to do this in the natural listings involves a few things and keywords is one of them. But to get them there and have a site that does not have a good astetic feel and is difficult to understand because all you have done is stuffed keywords into each page to satify...lets say for arguments sake Google they are going to go away.

A few resources that I used to give me a stear were Brad Callen, Micheal Cheeny for SEO advice... Just go on there site sign up for their free newletter and they will sent you video's talking you through basic SEO techniques.

If you do want your sight to get listed for certain keywords, but you know that you can not introduce them all to you pages another idea is to use Google adwords where you can use as many keywords as you want, but you will pay for this privelage... A good resource for this is Perry Marshal... Same script as before just sign up to all the free help that e will send.. Just be aware that these people will also try to sell you things from time to time... As they say no such thing as a free lunch, but just use them for what you can get for free.

You need to install a meta tags contribution like Header Tags or cDynamic Meta Tags. Do that alone won't mean you will reach the top 10 in the search engine listings but it is a big step towards it. The process of optimizing your site involves quite a few steps but, if done properly, you can reach the top 10. There is a lot of infomation on the subject here in the forums. You just need to search for it. Like with everything else regarding oscommerce, it takes a while to understand what is needed but you can do it.

Thanks also from me. Can you tell me, or anybody tell me, which files I need to go into to adjust these tags? I nned this info too, as what shows up in google is pretty naff!

It depends on the contribution you use. If you use Header Tags, just go into admin->Header Tags->Fill Tags and fill all of the products/categories/manufacturers tags from there.
