Design decisions for Joomla/Oscommerce site

I?m looking for some design help, as I?m not that ofay with osCommerce; this is my first store, for a mate. I would like to build a site incorporating Joomla CMS/OsCommerce to sell car parts, accessories, tools etc. I?ve used Mambo before; it?s powerful and easy to use. I want to use Joomla, as its open source, to hold non sellable content like promotions and part descriptions. I?ve got some questions about configuration and navigation between them.

I?ve had a look at the various configs, like joscommerce.com and the bridge product, but I don?t know if I want to have that much integration. The login sync seems to be a problem for folk and SSL working correctly from looking at the forums, although I don?t know how up to date these are, so I don?t want to down that path. I?m thinking more on this though http://demo.seismicos.com/ Has anybody got this working? I think this may be a better solution. What impact on configuration does this design have on osCommerce configs? Does a bunch of shell configuration need to be changed.

I?m planning to use 3 drop down menus, similar to the dropdown menu contro, implemented by a script which models a make->model->year hierarchy to easily select car parts. I would like to place the dropdowns both in Mambo and OsCommerce. The scenario would be, if the customer selected a car on Joomla side, the script would open to osCommerce with a sub select of all categories/products, showing all the specific parts, specific to that make-model-year. The dropdown menu contro would also be on the osCommerce side and have the same functionality, for customers, so they could easily select another make and model. The reason I want to do it this way, is I want to make the finding of a part very easy. Is it possible to subselect catageories and products in this manner, and is there a make->model->year script available, or would I have to get it developed.

I?m planning on using Information Pages Unlimited to have greater control tie into Joomla to display additional info about a product. What are the pitfalls on using this?

Thanks :)

I do not know that much about the osc bridge other than it does work. I do wonder how you acces the administration panel for your osc cart. The joscommerce project has changed to ECJoomCommerce which I do know about.

Most importantly is the ECJoomCommerce project installs OSC INSIDE Joomla as components and modules. It has the same funtionallity as configuring OSC as a component in Joomla. That means you can add remove products from your Joomla admin panel.

You can see a live example at you can acces the admin side with the user name tester and the password tester

You can download the zip file used for that installation at Web Host Builder which includes all patches already installed so it is current at v1.1.3 no need to upgrade until 1.1.4

Keep in mind though it is still in beta.
