messlinger Posted July 25, 2006 Share Posted July 25, 2006 Hi All, Can someone point me to the perfect thread or book or expert? General info.. I'm new to OSC and new to online stores in general. I've been playing with PHP for a couple years. Also, I've searched this forum and read all the applicable instructions I can find. I'm setting up shopping on an existing php site. All is well with the catalog install and I understand most of the initial config. I downloaded the osCommerce_PayPal_IPN_v1.3.zip contrib and most of it makes sense. Now, for the meat... I'm wondering if there's a thread, specific to setting this up as a Paypal Only site. Also, all my products will be eBooks, so all products need to be downloadable (Digital Delivery) immediately after payment has cleared. I've set this same sort of system up with 'eBay Buy It Now' and an Outlook Express auto-responding system, and I'd like this shop to work the same way as that does, mostly becasue it seems a 'low maintenance' as possible. Is there the perfect thread or book or expert out there, where I can learn the steps to get this done with as little learning curve as possible? Gil_e_n Posted July 26, 2006 Share Posted July 26, 2006 As far as I'm aware, there aren't any good books for your site (though someone else may know of one, since I'll admit to not having looked into the matter that deeply). Some contributions you may want to check out are: Download only / MP3 shop cart and display modifications Download controller I don't use paypal nor do I have any downloadable products (yet), so I really can't help you much. The knowledgebase (link in my signature) is useful in general, though not as detailed as I might like. The forums are incredibly useful if you use google to search them, rather than the built in forum search. Trying to install oscommerce with as little learning as possible strikes me as the kind of thing that's going to come back and bite you in the ass at some point, though. There's some security issues with the checkout that your site's particularly vulnerable to (paypal/downloadable products) and I suggest you google that - there isn't a perfect solution just yet as far as I can tell, though. Other than that, I can't really tell you anything specific to your store. Good luck. Always BACK UP your files and your database before making any changes. Maybe I worded it badly.. I don't wish to "as little learning as possible". I'm just trying to straighten the learning curve a little. Maybe I'm in the wrong board here.
