Lucky Beau Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I will appreciate any comment on any aspect of my shop: http://www.e-BeauShop.com Also any feedback on these issues: I have no ssl, I use Paypal and Payment Form from Authorize.net. For the time being, customers login and register in unsecured pages, but later on when the shop starts making money I will get an ssl myself. I introduce myself quite openly in 'about us' thinking this will create more customer trust. Thank you. Ninique
ausmak Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Hi. My first expectation was that your store sells wood floring or something related with wood. This come from your background. I thing you need light color or image for background. Specialy on your shop becouse most of your customers will be femails and from my knowlage :-" :) :) they are more romantik and like fresh colours This is my oppinion, maybe i'm wrong???
♥14steve14 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I would get rid of the silly background image also. I also think your store would look better centered on the page without that large imasge box to the right. If you wish to kep these changing images move them to a box in either your left or right columns. The wood in the background images also looks a tad silly. You should also remove the silly cartoonish oscommerce images from the top righ of every page. If you want to keep something there, change the images to something that relates to your store. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP

Thank you again.

This forum is very good. I think I have to come out with a softer apperance. Thank you for browsing my pages, definitely I'm going to get rid of the cartoonish images. Those images are more for a computer store, I guess.
Guest Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I actually like the current background image, but maybe that is already changed since the first comments in here. The random box with the flash advert that just kind of hangs on the right hand side of all of the other content, just looks horribly wrong, it looks like a mistake! I don't have any strong feelings either way about the wood effect, but the yellow text on the wood that you are using for the top buttons is far from the easiest to read, if you don't want to change the colours of this, then you should change the font. A lot of your products have very long names, this creates a problem on the product information pages, where you have absolutely no spacing between the price and the text of the product name, it looks messy and confusing, you should add some margin or padding to one of these elements. I've just looked at three seperate products on your store and in case the popup image is exactly the same size as the one that is displayed in the product information page. If this is the case with all of the images then maybe you should disable the popup - when people click a link they expect something more than they've already seen and it's a bit annoying to get the same image again.
Andrew Yuen Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Great job making the wood pattern work with the yellow/tan background. I would consider redoing the E-BeauShop text. It does not match the rest of the site. Also the link rollover is light blue even though the rest of the site is tan/brown. Other then that the banner on the right gets annoying after awhile and should have a little x to close out the banner. Andrew Yuen osCommerce, Community Team

I think the advert is important, I am going to change the content from time to time and have a different one for every major category, however I had a real hard time in finding a good place. I am working on it again now. I just changed the font from bold to normal, so the product name and price are not in one straight line anymore. Good that you noticed my redundant popups. Some of my popups are more useful/informative than the others. I have to clean them up. Now I know for sure that I have to do this. I am working on a new face for my website considering all the input I received and I will come back to you hoping for more feedback :) . Thank you very much.

my scrap shop G Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Hi.My first expectation was that your store sells wood floring or something related with wood. This come from your background. I thing you need light color or image for background. Specialy on your shop becouse most of your customers will be femails and from my knowlage :-" :) :) they are more romantik and like fresh colours This is my oppinion, maybe i'm wrong??? LMAO, I don't like prissy fluffy sites, but I also don't like the colour scheme here, or the fonts. The logo is skewed out of proportion and looks a bit amateur-ish. and then the wood grain buttons (which just don't suit the site) have that computer-matrix-type font. I didn't mind the changing photo at first but now it's just wrong, hanging there on the right. I think even if you switched it to the left it would make more sense (is this a western thing? or a right-hander thing??) but i know the pain of putting together your own website and I think you've made a great start!! :)
Lucky Beau Posted August 22, 2006 Author Posted August 22, 2006 I've been working hard to improve my website since my first posting in July: http://www.e-beaushop.com :sweating: o:) :) . What do people think about my website now? Any feedback is very helpful. I have included an extra php: When a customer forgets his password, resets and gets a new awkward password in his mail, first time he logins again with his new password, he will be sent to this new php where he can change his password to his own word password. This store is live, please don't place a test order Thanks in advance Ninique
Andrew Yuen Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Although your site is in a fixed width table, it is too wide for a 800 X 600 pixel screen. I think the flash to the right is very useful since it summarizes what the store is selling. Looking at just the header and overall design I would not be able to tell what the store is selling without the flash on the right. It seems to me that the buttons in the header and the left infoboxes do not match the buttons in the main content infobox. I like how a consistant color scheme is kept throughout the store except for the buttons in the main infobox that do not match the overall color scheme of the site. The last suggestion that I have would be to purchase an SSL certificate. Other then that, I like the very simple design of the store but consider optimizing the design to fit both a 800 X 600 pixel screen and 1400 X 1050 pixel screen. Lucky Beau Posted October 18, 2006 Author Posted October 18, 2006 I would appreciate very much any comments on the functions, design and speed of my website: http://e-beaushop.com/ I learn a lot in this project. I started with no understanding at all about php, mysql and flash. My paint shop and html skills were also very basic. This forum has helped me a lot in figuring out how to deal with the bugs/programming problems. In my 2 previous postings I received little but very helpful feedback. I really hope that this time I will get more responses/feedback. Thank you. Ninique
jpweber Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Nice design ... the template/graphics are pleasant. (1) Why no SSL? If you need direction on getting secured, let me know. You'll only need 20 bucks or so -- it's more than worth it -- it's a mandate. (2) Good meta tags, robots, etc.. Chill on the keywords; they're really not that important, and I'd focus on phrases rather than words, and only have maybe about half of what you have. I'd also focus on your page titles -- make 'em different for each page. Perhaps Header Tags Controller would be good for this, although I wouldn't be sure on how to integrate it into your template system. (4) Contact Us page. Why not put a phone number and/or address down there, just to let people know there are actual human beings there, in a real, live company? I think it adds to customer assurance. (5) Consider PWA -- purchase without account. Another contribution. Perhaps it's annoying to some customers that they have to create an account just to buy a bottle of cologne. jason32835 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I would appreciate very much any comments on the functions, design and speed of my website:http://e-beaushop.com/ I learn a lot in this project. Thank you. Ninique I like your site a lot, easy to navigate, and pretty professional looking. I like the small bit of flash, but I wish it was only on the first page. After navigating around and watching it reload a few times, it gets old. You probably need SSL to make consumers feel more comforable purchasing from you. Looks good though.

Lucky Beau Posted October 18, 2006 Author Posted October 18, 2006 Nice design ... the template/graphics are pleasant. Maybe they'll just click out of your site and go to another site that doesn't require it. (6) Do I get a free bottle of cologne for this? Hopefully one that the ladies like? Very good graphics, like I said. Professional job. Keep it going! Looks good. I am glad that you like my design. Thank you. You were the second person suggesting SSL, but the first stressing it as a mandate. I thought I would get SSL after getting more orders because I use payment forms from authorize.net and paypal. A staff in my merchant bank told me that SSL is not required, but people are getting more reluctant to write their name and address in unsecured sites and login should be under secured mode. I will start shopping around for SSL. I don't understand how to have different title for every product. I just noticed when somebody clicks a product in google linking to my website, it goes to my front page and not to the product. So this is a major flaw of my site. What is header tags controller? I just found the PWA contribution. I think this is a very good suggestion, I should have it in my website. Hmm, I still have a lot of homework and I owe you a bottle of cologne! You are high in the list to get it when my site starts making money. Do you think signing up for Yahoo Marketing Scheme (Fast Track) 150 bucks will help? Thank you very much for all your suggestions, I will do them all. Ninique
Lucky Beau Posted October 18, 2006 Author Posted October 18, 2006 Al I can say is WOW! Probably one of the best I have seen for a long while Regards Mark Thank you so much for your compliments. I would definitely get an SSL. Thank you Ninique

I am still trying to find ways to have an X to stop the flash. Thank you.
Lucky Beau Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 Although your site is in a fixed width table, it is too wide for a 800 X 600 pixel screen. I thought I had replied to your suggestions. I had been working hard to implement your feedback (almost 2 months ago). I was able to make my website width change with the computer screen but I cannot find a workable way to detect if javascript is disabled, so now I stick to a much narrower design. I also tried to reply to your PM about my store multiple postings for review in this forum, but I' m not sure whether my reply delivered. Anyway, now I understand how this feedback forum works. Thank you for feedback, it really makes my site look better. Ninique
Guest Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Excellent design. Love how you did the images ... nearly all the same border style. If you could, the horizontal space between the header and the main section could be decreased in size just a smidge. Perhaps by half? Since you still have the "click to view larger image" enabled, why not make your product pics smaller? That way, your product description text is moved upward, and a bit less scrolling for your customers. This is just me, and everyone has differing opinions on this subject ... I would change the font face and size on your product description page. Use Arial or Times Roman and perhaps size 11. Definately need to add more to your Contact Us page: company name, physical address, phone number (toll-free preferably), and an email address or so just in case the contact form isn't working for your customer, they can still email you their questions or concerns. You've done a great job. If you have a strong marketing campaign plan, you should do quite well. Edit - another suggestion: install Ultimate SEO URLs. That way, each product page will have it's own name. Example: http://www.e-beaushop.com/product_info.php/products_id/3020 ... would be come something like, http://www.e-beaushop.com/botanex-wash-off-cleanser.html Just another way to get the search engines to like you. Also gives you a better chance of being found via search engine searching cause your product URL contains search terms (keywords).

O yes, You just gave me the answer to something that?s bothering me today: The Ultimate SEO URLs. I just noticed very recently that the linking from Google will always go to my main page and not to the specific product. I thought it was something to do with Google (I still have to submit a certain file/list to them to make them crawling better in my site). I put more description about the shop in the "About Us" which actually I can just as well merge it as 1 page with Contact Us. I just visited your site and I love your cat! Decreasing the gap between the heading and main section will make my design more efficient, now I?m thinking to reduce the top margin as well. Thank you so much for the compliments (pamper my soul! I like your slogan) and the very helpful suggestions. Ninique
