looking for feedback on both the linkpoint connect and API modules. having considerable difficulty making a decision and any feedback would be most appreciated.

regarding linkpoint connect - which customer information is required to be entered on both the commerce site and secure payment form? from what i've read, you can configure linkpoint connect to just require credit card information? does oscommerce still maintain the user's order history? would love to see screenshots with the fields required at each step from anyone using this module.

regarding linkpoint API - what exactly is required? i understand there needs to be a secure server (SSL certificate) on the website - does that, by default, require a dedicated IP? for those using the API, how do you control the credit card information in your database - or is there a way to utilize the card information for the transaction and then purge the data? i'm certain there are severe liabilities involved for loss of credit card data, and by not having physical control of the servers, not sure i'm willing to take this risk.

apologies for the barage of questions, but trying to obtain all information available to make the best decision for our shop. thanks again.

I have one of my shops using linkpoint connect without any problems. PM me for the URL (google is so fast these days). You will have to go through checkout as no way will I take screenshots for you :-"

thanks so much monika! i made it all the way to the credit card entry screen, which from the looks of it, is entirely integrated with your site.

from the readings, i was under the impression the buyer would be directed to a separate "linkpoint maintained" entry page. happy to see this isn't the case - unless after entering credit card info, there's another page?

kind of confused where all the problems with linkpoint connect lie then, seems to be an entirely oscommerce integrated module??

on further inspection, looks like you do use an SSL though. is this why the user is never taken away from the site?

no SSL doesn't have to do anything with it ... I will check when the scheduled downtime is over.

thanks monika - not sure to which downtime you're referring, but i'll hold tight. :D i'm so confused about this whole process - and upon downloading, it seems both the linkpoint connect and API contributions say "require SSL".

on a side, read your blog and will definitely be purchasing that osC book you reviewed - thanks for the heads-up!

honestly, I would never buy from a store that doesn't have SSL ... my host offers free shared SSL that doesn't look funky, so I took up on that one

downtime:

they have a scheduled downtime sunday nights ...

with the contrib I used, you do not leave the shop when paying. Why not purchase a little thing for dw and see?

thanks again for the insight. my host offers free shared SSL, didn't realize that was a possibility. was basing that belief on another thread regarding linkpoint basic, but guess linkpoint basic and connect are two different modules.

one last question before i absolutely drive you mad - sounds like you've got the linkpoint connect settings to "Bypass the Payment Form"? (i.e., you're collecting all data on your site and transfering the required fields to linkpoint) so if this IS possible with shared SSL, think i'm homefree!

btw, how can a shared SSL look funky? and what is dw?

a funky shared SSL looks like this https://dprhensim32.doteasy.com/~admin8/account.php

no reference to your shop website ... would confuse me deeply as a buyer!

dw = dear wife ... and really, get some baubles from my friend Jason's site and you'll see the whole payment process ... he has the shared SSL as suggested!

hehe, the "dw" had a shopping spree over the weekend, so no baubles for her right now!

will contact linkpoint tomorrow to determine what's involved in adding linkpoint connect to a linkpoint central account. will also touch base with my host regarding the shared SSL.

thanks again for the help monika - hopefully one day i can return the favor!
